These days, your Android handset is smart enough to regulate the power so it’s not overcharging.
But there are factors from overcharging that can age your phone’s battery faster, namely the heat that it can generate.
Samsung’s website says: “The battery is not at risk of overcharging if you leave your phone plugged in overnight.
“Once it reaches full charge, the charging process stops and only reactivates periodically to maintain the battery at full capacity.”

But it also explains: “Technically, it is recommended to unplug your phone once the battery is fully charged (at 100%) to extend its lifespan.
“However, the positive impact of this action is relatively minimal.”
Airplane mode saves battery
- Myth or truth? Truth
Airplane mode is a simple way to save battery quickly – but it obviously comes at a cost.
You lose access to everything that makes a mobile, connectivity, so no calls or data.
But if you’re without a charger and desperately need to save dwindling battery for an emergency or to make a call later, airplane mode is a good option.
You can still switch Wi-Fi on with airplane mode but this will use more battery.
Closing apps saves battery
- Myth or truth? Myth
You might think that force closing apps down will save battery but this is incorrect.
According to Wired, Google has previously stated that closing apps down completely can actually use more battery.
When an app isn’t running it goes into a kind of hibernation state.
That’s because constantly closing and re-opening an apps requires more energy.
Reducing screen brightness
- Myth or truth? Truth
Brightness is known for being one of the biggest battery consumers on phones.
So the brighter your display is, the more battery you’ll use.
Reducing the brightness can help save some juice.
Don’t forget there is dark mode too which can help.
Let your battery drop to zero before charging
- Myth or truth? Myth (but was once a truth)
Allowing your phone battery to drop to zero before recharging it won’t help its lifespan contrary to popular belief.
