Big savings can be found alerady ahead of Black Friday this year

Black Friday usually kicks off officially on 27 November but there are many retailers which like to get started weeks – and sometimes even months – before.

Deals on electrical items, tech and other big ticket products are usually popular at this time of the year, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

As with any offer, discount or sale, it’s always worth checking elsewhere and comparing prices so you know you really are getting the best deal.

And if you weren’t planning to buy it in the first place, don’t be tempted into spending when you don’t need to because that’s not saving you money however good the deal

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

All non-essential shops in England will remain shut for the Black Friday sales season this year due to lockdown measures that won’t be lifted until December 2.

You can still order online and some places are offering click and collect services but it’s worth checking with your local store what’s available.

Here we’ve rounded up some of the early deals we’ve spotted so far.

Amazon has a small discount on the ever popular Nintendo Switch console.

There are several offers where it’s bundled with games, but this one is neon coloured and comes with the latest version of Just Dance and has the biggest savings of £19 off.

This isn’t the biggest saving we’ve seen before Black Friday, but Asda’s console-only deal of £239.99 (reduced from £279.99, so a saving of £40, or 14%) has sold out already.

Nintendo Switch deals with bigger savings jump off the shelves, so you usually have to move quick.

Aldi has promised it’s Black Friday deals which go live online on the day (November 27) will include a Nintendo Switch for only £229.99.

Delivery is free with Amazon.

Apple’s wireless AirPod headphones are on sale and the cheapest version, the 2nd generation Airpods with charging case, are just under £125.

These are not the newest version (the Pro and wireless charging versions are pricier but reduced too) but you get the headphones themselves with the carry case to charge them, which plugs in via USB.

And as with all AirPods, you can use Siri voice commands as well as listen to music and make calls.

Amazon is not the only place with AirPods on sale – Currys, John Lewis and Very also have them reduced to the same price.

Delivery is free on this item with Amazon and at these other retailers.

This isn’t the cheapest 19 inch TV on the market.

We found this Bush one with built-in DVD player from Argos for £109.99, but the features do vary, like the number of cable sockets, so it’s worth comparing models closely to get what you’re looking for.
