A majority of them require you to sign up to their newsletters in advance, while others just ask you to create an account online.

The freebies are sure to make you feel extra special on your big day and could come in handy by saving you cash too.

We round up some of the top freebies and discounts below.

The Sun’s digital consumer editor Tara Evans first shared her top tips during an appearance on Channel 4’s Steph McGovern show earlier today.

Plus, if you missed out because you had a birthday during lockdown, we explain how to claim your freebie anyway.

‘Free’ £25 bottle of prosecco at Pizza Express

By creating a free online account with Pizza Express, you’ll get a free bottle of prosecco, worth around £25, on your birthday as long as you buy two meals.

You can also choose between beer or wine, although in Scotland you can’t get alcohol as part of this treat so you’d get up to six soft drinks instead.

The cost of a booze varies by branch and is subject to availability – and you can’t stack the offer with any other discounts.

Free £5 to spend at Paperchase

Shoppers who pick up a Treat Me loyalty card and register it online will get £5 to spend in store or online for their birthday.

The £5 off is applied to cards automatically on your birthday and is valid for 28 days.

You don’t have to spend a minimum amount to benefit, although you won’t get the difference refunded if you purchase something for less than a fiver.

Top tips for claiming birthday freebies

TARA Evans, The Sun’s digital consumer editor, shares her top tips for claiming birthday freebies.

  • When you sign up for these freebies, you’re giving companies your information. Expect marketing emails and make sure you’re happy with how they plan to use your data
  • You might want set up a separate email address to use
  • Vouchers or freebies may have expiry dates – some are valid for your birthday month
  • Some will only work in person, check the T&Cs
  • It’s not a freebie if you have to spend money you weren’t planning to spend
  • If you had a birthday during lockdown, some companies have extended their vouchers so you can claim

Free beauty products from Space NK

Space NK is giving out a free collection of beauty minis to shoppers on their birthday to pick up in store or you can add them to an online order.

The types of brands up for grabs vary, but the retailer sells some seriously swanky brands such as Charlotte Tilbury.

To get the freebies, you’ll need to sign up for the N.Dulge loyalty card and subscribe to its mailing list, which can be done online.

Free doughnut from Krispy Kreme

Join Krispy Kreme Rewards for free online and one of the perks is a voucher for a free doughnut on your birthday.

You’ll get the original glazed version, which normally costs £1.65.

Usually, vouchers are emailed to members who then have seven days to use them but the scheme’s had a shake-up due to the pandemic.

For existing members who had a birthday during lockdown until August 31 you’ll have been given 150 loyalty points known as Smiles.

This is enough to redeem a free doughnut of your choice – normally you need 100 for the standard original glazed version.

For those with birthdays from September 1 onwards, you’ll be sent a voucher on the first day of the month you were born, which lasts until the end of the following month.

Free sweet treat at Greggs

Similar to Krispy Kreme’s scheme, shoppers can sign up to Greggs’ Rewards via its free app and on your birthday you’ll be sent a voucher to claim a sweet treat.

This can be anything from a doughnut, cookie, or yum yum costing up to £1 and you don’t have to buy anything else to get the freebie.

To redeem the birthday treat, Greggs Rewards members simply need to generate a code through the app, which will then be scanned at the till.

Free burrito from Barburrito

If you want something more savoury, restaurant chain Barburrito gives you a free burrito, worth between £5.50 and £6.35 depending on what filling you choose, for your birthday.

All you need to do is sign up to its loyalty scheme and register the card at least four days before the big day.

Barburritos has more than 20 branches across the UK. You can find your nearest one on its website.

Free drink from Boost Juice

If you’re health conscious, you’ll be pleased to know that you can get a free juice on your birthday by signing up to a free Vibe card via the Boost Juice app.

Then take the card along with ID to a Boost store on the week of your birthday and you are entitled to a free Boost juice worth £4.

Just keep in mind that the offer cannot be redeemed on any other day regardless of external circumstances.

Free shake at Ed’s Easy Diner

For milkshake lovers, Ed’s Easy Diner is the place to head to on your birthday for a free shake worth £5.

Again, all you have to do is download the app and sign up for a loyalty card.

£5 voucher at The Body Shop

The Body Shop fans get £5 in vouchers to spend in store or online for their birthday by signing up to the “Love Your Body” club.

A fiver at The Body Shop would get you a 30ml hand cream.

Free beauty treatment at Debenhams

We all deserve to be pampered on our birthday and with a Debenhams Beauty Club loyalty card, you can claim a free file and paint nail treatment.

Sign up to Debenhams marketing emails, and you’ll get an email telling you how to redeem the offer at a blow LTD concession in London, Manchester or Birmingham around your birthday.

You can find more information about the offer on Debenhams’ website.

Free meal at Brewer’s Fayre

Members of restaurant chain Brewer’s Fayre’s free “Bonus Club” get a free meal on their birthday.

This can be redeemed in-branch using a printed voucher that’s emailed to you or by displaying a copy on your phone.

It’s unclear if any terms and conditions are attached to the offer, such as a minimum spend – The Sun has asked the chain and we’ll update this story if we hear back.

2for1 meals at Frankie and Benny’s

Diners who register with Frankie and Benny’s free Rewards scheme usually get two mains for the price of one on their birthday, or a bottle of Prosecco for the reduced price of £10 down from £16.49.

To get the offer, you need to show a code that you’ll have been emailed ten days before your birthday, and you normally have 50 days to use the discount.

You usually get the cheapest meal free when you eat in and the scheme is valid on any mains, although the discount only applies to two meals.

The scheme is currently paused due to the coronavirus crisis but Frankie and Benny’s says it will allow customers to redeem vouchers that expired during lockdown when it’s back, although there’s no date for this yet.

Discounts at retailers

Instead of freebies, some retailers offer shoppers a birthday discount code.

It’s worth looking out for these ahead of Christmas, especially if you’re willing to be selfless and use them for money off gifts for other people.

We’ve listed some of the top offers below.

Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear’s “Count Your Candles” scheme lets Bonus Club members buy a bear for the same age as their child on their birthday.

So if your child turns two, for example, you’d pay £2 for a bear as opposed to the usual price of around £14.

The Bonus Club scheme is free to join.

H&M

Download the free H&M app and become a member and you’ll get 25% off one item on your birthday.

Just keep in mind you can’t use the discount on designer collaborations, special collections or on gift cards, and you must select standard delivery if ordering online.

Shop Disney

Shop Disney gives 15% off to shoppers who have signed up to marketing from Disney and if you’ve provided your birthday information.

For your birthday, you’ll then be sent a single-use code to use.

For more discounts, we round up retailers, including Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing, that will give you money off if you recycle old clothes.

Plus, here’s how to make hundreds each week using odd-job sites.

Meanwhile, Black Friday could last all of November this year with shops eager to avoid crowds due to the coronavirus pandemic.
