The new data is part of Ofcom’s Online Nations report, which analysed the number of users on various popular dating apps in the month of May 2023.

While dating apps were once seen as taboo, the report shows that more than one in 10 (11 per cent) of UK adults now use these services to find love.

It seems that men are on the lookout for connections more than women, with the overall visitors for online dating platforms split 61 per cent male, and 38 per cent female.

Tinder tops the list as the most popular dating app in the UK, reaching an impressive 2.49 million Britons.

This is followed by Hinge (1.51 million users), Bumble (1.44 million users), Grindr (924,000 users), and Plenty of Fish (625,000 users).

However, the data shows that dating app use varies hugely between age groups.

‘Online dating services reached 20% of 25-34-year-olds, the highest reach among any adult age group,’ Ofcom explained in the report.

‘The 18-24-year-olds were the second most prominent visitors, with 17% visiting at least one dating service in May 2023.’

For Gen-Z, the figures show that Hinge is the place to be, with 28 per cent of users aged 18-24. However, Tinder isn't far behind, with 24 per cent of users in this age group (stock image)

Older millennials (34-44-year-olds), meanwhile, prefer Happn (38 per cent) and Plenty of Fish (29 per cent), while people aged 45-54 can usually be found on Badoo.

Finally, people aged 55-64 make up 15 per cent of the users on PURE Hookup, while people aged 65+ prefer Grindr.

‘OurTime – a dating service for the over-50s – unsurprisingly has users mostly aged over 55 at 63%,’ Ofcom said.

‘Although Grindr is the most popular dating service for this age group overall.’
