BETWEEN trips to the salon and expensive products and gadgets, it is easy to spend a fortune on your hair.

TRAIN YOUR HAIR: Washing your locks every day is a big chore, plus it eats through your shampoo and conditioner at a costly rate.

So try gradually increasing the time between hair washes. The theory is that your scalp adjusts by producing less oil, meaning your hair won’t look greasy as fast.

Start by washing every other day and then build up to two or three days between a clean.

MORE MONEY SAVING TIPS

An over-ripe avocado mixed with olive oil works wonders on dry hair. Or try ripe banana mixed with honey and egg yolk, which can help improve volume.

Mix up the concoctions in a bowl and leave on your hair for around 20 minutes before washing clean.

TOOL DOWN: Curling tongs such as the Dyson Airwrap are hugely expensive, but you can create beachy waves from straight hair without costly gadgets.

Twist wet hair around a fabric curler in the evening and when you wake up in the morning it will be dry and perfectly wavy. Argos has a home hair curler set on sale at £5, down from £7.50. Or try the TikTok trend of wrapping wet hair around a clean fizzy drink can before blow drying.

Section off hair and hold the can in place until the hair is dry and you’ll be left with the perfect curl.

MODEL LOOKS: A cut or colour at the salon can be a huge hit to the pocket.

Martin Lewis reveals how families can get Ikea meals every week starting at just 45p

If you need a trim or colour, get your hair done by a trainee instead to save a stack of cash. Simply ask at local salons if they are in need of models or search local online noticeboards.
