How to get a free kids’ book worth £1 from the Works

KIDS will be delighted to read their very own personalised story book that The Works is giving away completely free of charge.

Each of the usually £1 books is personalised to feature children’s names, and the stories centre around birthdays, love and even environmental issues.

Hundreds of the books are on offer in all The Works stores, but as they don’t cost a penny to purchase, it’s not likely that stock will hang around for long.

There are loads of different variations on offer and titles include the likes of “Ethan is the greatest” or “Max saves the oceans”.

You should be able to pick out a version that includes your child’s name within the title, but it’s not guaranteed that it will be in stock in-store.

The freebie was spotted on Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook where eagle-eyed bargain hunters alerted the community to cash in on the giveaway.

There are lots of other ways to get children reading on little or no budget – here’s how to claim free kids’ books as spotted on MoneySavingExpert:

Audible has a whole range of kids’ audiobooks that you can download for free – you don’t have to sign up and you can just choose what you want and stream it.
The Little Free Library project is a community book exchange where anyone can leave or borrow a book in the tiny hutch-sized libraries found outside people’s houses or in playgrounds or bus shelters across the UK.
Amazon has loads of classic Kindle books that are always free, from Black Beauty to The Jungle Book. You just have to check what’s on the list of free classics.
Apple Books also has a “free books” section you just have to make sure you have the app downloaded if you have an apple product and search for the section to claim.
Your local Library will have a massive collection of books that you can rent out for free – you won’t be able to keep these indefinitely though as they’ll have a return date but you can always keep checking out the same book if you just can’t get enough.
World Book Day tokens can be used to exchange for a free book in supermarkets. Your child’s school will dish these out but you can only claim the freebies once a year.

One shopper spotted both a trolley and a bin full of the free books in The Works Whitefriagate, while another found multiple shelves stacked with the books in The Works Kettering.

The free books are accompanied by a friendly note that reads “please feel free to help yourself” encouraging shoppers to pick up the products when they visit the store.

If you want to nab one for yourself you can use The Work’s store finder to locate your nearest one, but you’ll have to be quick as the offer will only last as long as stock does.

The freebies are only available to pick up in store as the deal isn’t running online, although the retailer does feature other book deals like a 10 for £10 kids picture book bundle that works out to be £1 per book.

At Not on the Highstreet, you can pick up personalised kid’s story books for £10, but despite them being currently reduced by 20% from £12.50, they still cost a lot more than the freebies The Works is giving away.

It comes as kids missed out on months of learning in-school over the duration of the pandemic, and families faced financial instability that sometimes couldn’t stretch to the purchase of new books this past year.
