HAVE you wrapped your Christmas pressies yet?

I know I always leave it to the last minute — and often it’s because I’ve forgotten to pick up wrapping paper.

Gift wrap is always an extra cost, and it can seem a shame to fork out on something that will be ripped up and not recycled.

So, I’ve decided to try out alternative ways to wrap that save dosh and are more environmentally friendly. . .

PAPER SHOPPING BAGS: If you’ve been shopping, many retailers offer attractive paper bags — and the good news is the paper from these easily doubles-up as gift wrap.

You could also get crafty and add some festive themes such as snow flakes or decorate with pine cones.

This also recycles the bag and saves throwing it straight away.

Simply cut to size and wrap as usual.

FABRIC: Old fabrics make fantastic, original wrapping – and can give new life to material that would otherwise end up in the bin.

Old bedsheets work great – just cut to size.

Keep an eye out for funky fabrics at charity shops and recycling centres.

NEWSPAPER: Read all about it!

Newspaper is a wonderful option for gift wrap for a number of reasons — it’s recyclable, easily obtainable and free with your daily read.

Plus it can look seriously stylish under the tree.

Make sure you use crisp sheets — those with lots of text work particularly well for a monochrome effect.

MAPS: These days, most of us use our smartphones or sat-navs when it comes to finding our way about.

Old maps or A-Z’s make unique wrapping and saves you from throwing away an outdated or unused map.

For an extra personal touch, you could select a map of somewhere significant.
