THE iPhone 12 has been labelled as the “the most durable smartphone ever” by researchers who conducted a drop test experiment.
Video footage shows the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro being dropped in several different ways from six feet high.
The new iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a Ceramic Shield that Apple claims is tougher than any smartphone glass.
Phone testers from Allstate wanted to try this out for themselves and were impressed despite several cracks in both phones.
The US insurance company dropped the phones onto a hard outdoor surface face-down, back-down and side-down.
Interestingly, the iPhone 12 survived with barely any marks and the iPhone 12 Pro mostly failed on the back-down drop because the shield does not protect its rear.
Allstate went as far as to say the “iPhone 12 is the most durable smartphone” and think it is significantly better protected than other leading phones on the market.
Apple claimed at its October 13 launch event that the iPhone 12 had a coating that increased drop performance by four times.
The Allstate experiment appears to confirm the hype.
The iPhone 12 did leave with a few small screen cracks and broken edges though.
The iPhone 12 Pro was left with more significant cracks on its front and back.
Despite this, the phone’s were said to perform better than the iPhone 11 Pro did in a drop test.
Allstate still recommend iPhone 12 users invest in a protective case.
