AMAZON Fire Stick owners have discovered that they’ve been using the gadget wrong for years, and it’s causing a nightmare behind their TVs.

Tech savvy TikToker and singer @danrappaport revealed that Amazon Fire Stick’s don’t actually need to be plugged into a wall socket – which can get rid of some unnecessary wires.

Instead, users can remove the ‘brick’ that comes with the Fire Stick -that usually plugs into the wall – to reveal a USB.

This USB can then be plugged straight into the USB port on the TV, without an extra wire leading out to the mains.

A Fire Stick can be powered by the TV alone, because the telly is already plugged into the mains.

And it can also free up plug space for those who live in older properties with fewer wall sockets.

“You are a genius!,” a fellow TikToker commented beneath the video.

However, some onlookers say their TV doesn’t channel enough power to the port when the Fire Stick and the TV itself are first turned on.

This is because the Fire Stick has no power when the TV is switched off.

Often, USB ports on TVs don’t carry a whole lot of amperage.

This means the Fire Stick has to reboot each time it is switched on which can take “forever,” according to one onlooker on TikTok.

While others say that this is “not a hack” and instead, simply, “intentional design”.

“Is this not how everyone does it?,” another asked.
