A MAJOR fast-food chain with over 1,000 branches in the UK has suddenly and unexpectedly closed one of its shops.

The KFC in Broadstairs, Kent, has put up posters in its windows informing customers of the closure.

A KFC spokesperson said: “We’re disappointed that the doors to our Westwood Retail Park KFC are currently closed.

“We’ll keep the people of Broadstairs updated as to any restaurant developments in the local vicinity, as and when we have news to share.

“Our Ramsgate and Margate restaurants are just around the corner and we look forward to welcoming local fans for their next fried chicken fix.”

The news of the closure has shocked residents, with one questioning: “Is this a joke?”, while another added: “Didn’t see that coming,” Kent Online reports.

It comes after the Wilko branch in Westwood Cross closed on September 12 in a blow for Kent residents.

KFC is not the only fast-food chain to shut branches in recent months.

McDonald’s permanently shut a franchise branch in Dorset this month.

Meanwhile, family favourite restaurant chain The Restaurant Group shut 23 stores in May this year.

But it’s not all bad news and some fast-food chains are expanding in the UK.
