Christmas is just around the corner and that means getting ready to cook up a turkey feast for the big day.

A Christmas box is one option for taking the hassle out of it – and the supermarkets have you covered, including Asda which is selling a bundle that serves eight people for just £15.

Tesco, Morrisons and Asda have all put together bundles and boxes to simplify your shopping, containing the essentials for the big day like pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and even the dreaded sprouts.

In previous years, Aldi and M&S have also offered theses bundles – we’ve asked them if they’ll be doing the same this year.

Lidl and Co-op have both said they won’t be doing boxes this year.

Instead of shopping for everything separately, you can just click buy on one box and get the whole lot together – here’s what you get in each.

Asda – £14.90 dinner for 8

Buy far the cheapest and serving the most people, Asda’s Christmas dinner bundle is smaller and not from a premium range – in fact, it’s frozen.

For anyone looking for a bargain this comes with five items for a main course and costs £14.90 – that’s just £1.86 per person

You’ll only get the basics here – turkey joint, veg and stuffing – but no pigs in blankets or sauces, or dessert or drink like the ones from Tesco and Morrisons.

But that’s not to say you can’t use this bundle as a the foundation for Christmas day dinner and buy more to add on.

What’s in Asda’s Xmas dinner in a box?

  • Bacon topped turkey joint
  • Pork sage and onion stuffing balls
  • Crispy roast potatoes
  • Ready to roast parsnips
  • Shredded mixed cabbage

This one is more of a time saver than anything, adding up to the same amount if items are bought separately.

Asda delivery costs between £3 and £5.50 depending on the day and time of your slot.

There’s a £3 surcharge for delivery orders for less than £40 and £25 for click and collect orders.

Asda does do a delivery pass, which costs £5 per month, £35 for six months or £55 for the year but you won’t be able to get one unless you have it already – the supermarket has temporarily stopped issuing new ones while demand is high during the pandemic.

Tesco – £35 dinner for 2

Tesco’s Christmas dinner box even comes with crackers

Tesco’s box comes with two courses – the main meal and dessert – as well as a bottle of fizz, and comes in at £17.50 per person.

There are 13 items in total, nine for the main (including cranberry sauce and gravy) and for dessert, Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

All the items come from the supermarket’s finest range and there are also a couple of Christmas crackers to pull too.

What’s in Tesco’s Xmas dinner in a box?

Main

  • British turkey breast fillet wrapped in streaky bacon
  • Broccoli, cauliflower & brussels sprout vegetable medley
  • Goose fat roast potatoes
  • Turkey gravy
  • Thyme roasted carrots & parsnips
  • Pigs in blankets
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Sage & Onion stuffing
  • Yorkshire puddings

After dinner

  • Christmas puddings
  • French brandy sauce
  • Christmas crackers

To drink

  • Premier Cru Champagne

We looked at how much this would cost to buy separately, comparing items closest to what you get in the box.

Some items were only available to serve a minimum of 4, so you might end up with more leftovers, and we went for the smallest available bottle of this champagne, which was £12.

All in, it added up to just over £50.

The box is only available to order online either for delivery between December 20-24 depending on location and availability of slots, or click and collect at a store near you between December 20-23.

Delivery costs between £4.50 and £5.50, or you can get a delivery pass for £7.99 per month, but there’s a surcharge of £4 on deliveries that are less than £40.

For click and collect, it’s £1.50 with a £4 surcharge on orders of less than £25.

Slots for Christmas delivery are in high demand and may be hard to secure so click and collect could be your best option.

Morrisons – £50 dinner for 4

Morrisons’ Christmas dinner in a box serves four people which works out as £12.50 per person.

It contains 16 items in total with nine items in the main course, including cranberry sauce and gravy, and a selection of after dinner treats which include sweet and savoury.

There are three types of cheese, crackers and fruit chutney, with either mince pies and yule log for those with a sweeter tooth.

The food comes from Morrisons’ “The Best” range and there’s no drink like there is with the Tesco box.

What’s in Morrisons’ Xmas dinner in a box?

Main

  • British turkey parcel
  • Pigs in blankets
  • Sage & onion stuffing balls
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Turkey gravy
  • Sprouts with lightly smoked gammon
  • Heritage carrots with butter
  • Honey & mustard baby parsnips
  • Goose fat potatoes

After dinner

  • Deep filled mince pies
  • Brie de meaux
  • Blue stilton
  • Caledonian vintage cheddar
  • Fruit chutney
  • Rye sourdough crackers
  • Yule log

When we added up these items individually, using the same or similar products, it came to £44.75.

It is cheaper and would cost even less if you went for items that were not from its premium range, but the box does include delivery too.

Delivery if you’re not buying a box costs between £2 and £7 depending on the slot, or you can pay for a delivery pass which ranges in cost, from £65 a year for anytime delivery to £5 a month for mid-week.
