ASDA’S website and app are up and running again after hundreds of customers were unable to order their food shopping online.

Shoppers reported trouble logging in to make their orders on the website and the app earlier today.

Users of the website were met with a message that reads “Sorry, there seems to be a problem logging you into your account.”

Shoppers had shared their struggles on social media, with outage tracker Down Detector recording complaints from more than 1,100 people shortly after 12.30pm.

The number of complaints has dipped to around 820 shortly after.

Down Detector tracks outages and said that “user reports indicate problems at Asda”.

Asda said a normal service resumed at 3pm but hasn’t said what caused it.

One shopper said: “Is there an issue with your app, won’t let me amend an order, now it’s booted me out and isn’t recognising log in details!”

Another tweeted: “The app and the website are both not working. I’ve tried the browser and app versions on 3 devices, reinstalled the app, cleared cookies etc on the browser. Still no go. @AsdaServiceTeam are you aware of this?”

A third customer said: “Does anyone know if @asda online shopping is down?? I can’t log in online or the app??”

One shopper also found that the phone number given for help logging in did not work.

The shopper said: “I’ve DM’d you as I cannot access either App or account and my 90 yr old mum RELIES on your deliveries.

The outage appeared to be country-wide, but the affected areas haven’t been confirmed by Asda.

The supermarket told customers on Twitter it was looking into the problem.

In the meantime, customers were advised to try the website again “shortly”.

An Asda spokesperson told The Sun before the issue was fixed: “We are aware of a technical issue which is currently affecting our websites and mobile apps.

“We are working hard to fix this as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience which this may cause.”

Supermarkets have had a huge increase in online shoppers because of the coronavirus lockdown rules.

Online deliveries have been a lifeline for people wanting to avoid going to the shops in person, especially for the most vulnerable and those self-isolating because of the virus.

Supermarkets have rushed to add millions of delivery slots to meet demand since the start of the pandemic last year.

Morrisons recently experienced issues with card payments.
