A wine costing just FOUR POUNDS has beaten hundreds of pricier tipples to bag a top award – and you can grab a bottle in Asda now.
The Southern Point Shiraz-Merlot won gold at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2020.

Judges picked the South African red ahead of wines more than ten times the price, such as Cederberg’s Five Generations Cabernet Sauvignon which will set you back a whopping £49.
Asda says the wine, which has black forest and plum flavours, is “well balanced, round and showing plenty of fruit with a subtle spice”.
The “easy drinking” shiraz is apparently a good match for a burger, sausage casserole or spicy pizza.
You can get it in Asda stores or online now for £4.00, although Asda has previously retailed it for as much as £5.50.
Ross Watson, senior wine buying manager at Asda said: “It just goes to show you don’t need to break the bank to get the best quality, value wines.”
There are plenty of red wine deals in the supermarkets right now as savvy shoppers start to stock up for Christmas.
Lidl’s Wine of the Week is a South African Cabernet Sauvignon which is reduced from £4.49 to £3.49 until 11 November, while Aldi has Castellore Italian Sangiovese, a rich red, down from £5.49 to £4.99 a bottle on its website.
Sainsbury’s is offering a £1.50 discount on its Chilean Casillero Del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon, which has gone down from £7.50 to £6.00, while Tesco has £2.00 off its Finest Argentinian Malbec if you buy online before 7 December.

If you’re after something with a bit of fizz, three supermarkets are set to launch pink prosecco this month after an Italian law change in May allowed the sparkling wine to be made with Pinot Noir grapes for the first time.
Aldi launched its 75cl version online this week for £6.49, while a £10 version from M&S is available online and in store. Sainsbury’s will be selling a similar fizz later this month, also for £10.
Supermarkets, newsagents and off-licenses in England are all allowed to stay open and sell alcohol during the four-week national lockdown.
