Kindles are the best way to read digital books. They’re friendlier on the eyes than smartphone screens and battery life is outstanding (about a month per charge). If you’re not sure which one to get, check out our guide to choosing the right Kindle.

  • Kindle for $65 ($25 off): The 2019 Kindle has everything you need (8/10, WIRED Recommends). This model uses a 6-inch E Ink capacitive touchscreen for reading, and it lights up so you can read in the dark. The only downsides are it’s not water resistant and it still uses a MicroUSB charging port.

  • Kindle Paperwhite for $100 ($30 off): The Kindle Paperwhite (9/10 WIRED Recommends) makes a nice upgrade. The touchscreen is noticeably clearer (300 pixels per inch vs. 167 for the standard) and the light is better. The Paperwhite is also rated IPX8, meaning you can read in the tub or beside the pool without stressing about water damage.

  • Kindle Kids Edition for $85 ($25 off): The Kindle Kids Edition (7/10 WIRED Review) is the same as the regular Kindle in terms of specs. What the extra $20 gets you is a case, two-year guaranteed replacement, and a one-year subscription to FreeTime Unlimited. There are no games, ads, or voice assistants to invade your child’s life and you can easily white-list library books and other free content. Did I mention it comes with at two-year guaranteed replacement? It’s worth the extra $20 for that alone. Have you seen what a seven-year-old can do to a Kindle?
