Has the lockdown and the advent of Christmas had you looking at your home with fresh eyes? Well, you’re not alone.

Many of us, spending more time than usual indoors, are beginning to notice the need for upgrades and cheering pep-ups.

This year, many retailers have already started their Black Friday offerings. So now is the time to shop smart.

‘If you are buying a big-ticket item, such as a sofa or a bed, make sure you have tried it first so that your purchase really does prove to be a good investment,’ says interior designer Karen Oliver.

Living in luxury

With many living rooms now accommodating work, too, items such as sofas, chairs, consoles and tech may well be due an upgrade.

Dwell’s Lugano three-seater sofa in blue velvet, charcoal or sand, reduced from £999 to £749, offers deep seating and slim arms for a contemporary feel.

If you want to invest in natural materials, then Heal’s cane sofa bed, reduced by 20 per cent to £1,599 marries chic French cane with pocket springs.

Oliver Bonas is offering 40 per cent off of much of its range — the Flora armchair, down to £237 from £395, will add scalloped detailing to a scheme.

For a playful touch, House of Hackney’s Ananas pineapple lamp at Liberty is reduced by 20 per cent to £396.

Tech-wise — expect big deals from Amazon. An LG 55 inch Smart LED TV with Freeview is reduced to £429.

Dining in style

For a timeless dining table, Habitat’s Celia in oak or walnut carries a £300 discount, to £595, from November 26 to 30. And why not upgrade dining chairs, with The Conran Shop and Heal’s offering six for the price of five, including Vitra and Fritz Hansen chairs.

Focus on tableware, too.

‘Sales are a great way to add to existing collections from the same maker,’ says Oliver. ‘I always take the opportunity to add to my range of Le Creuset pans.’

Cox & Cox is running a Grey Friday offer, which sees 20 per cent off from today with the code GONE20, rising to up to 50 per cent on selected ranges on Black Friday, until November 30. Its white and brushed gold cutlery set is £145, while its brass cocktail trolley is £375.

If you’re looking for a kitchen upgrade, Brookmans has 20 per cent off of all its ranges. We love its K2 Collection.

Time for bed

When it comes to mattresses, look for those that will stand the test of time. Land of Beds has up to 30 per cent off Hypnos and Vispring mattresses.

Dress your bed in style with Piglet’s French flax linen sheets. Get 20 per cent off its range, from November 23 to 30, using the code BF20.

Make a splash in the bathroom, too with Sheridan’s Egyptian cotton range of towels at House of Fraser, with discounts of up to 50 per cent.

Designer deals

If pre-loved vintage designs are on your wish list, Vinterior, an online marketplace of antique wares, has discounts from November 25 to 30.

And for every £100 you spend at The Conran Shop this month, you’ll receive a ‘Loves You’ gift card worth £20. So a designer piece costing £1,000 would earn you £200 to spend — an easy way to collect big-ticket items more affordably.
