PREDICTIONS for when early Black Friday 2020 sales will start at shops including Argos and Next have been revealed.

Black Friday doesn’t fall until November 27 this year, but most retailers start their discounts before then – sometimes up to two weeks early.

The Sun has rounded up predictions on when these retailers will start their Black Friday deals

This year, some stores are expected to start their sales even earlier – with some already kicking off a month before Black Friday.

It comes following a turbulent time for the UK high street, with shops recording their worst decline in sales in 25 years after coronavirus forced retailers to temporarily close stores.

To help you out this Black Friday, deals website Money Saver Online has pulled together some estimates on when sales are likely to start.

These guesses are based on previous years’ sales, as well as insider information.

What is Black Friday?

BLACK Friday is one of the busiest days in the retail calendar and typically marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping period.

Stores will often launch huge sales to get customers spending, with some even opening as early as 6am to accommodate bargain hunters.

Black Friday began in the US, but in recent years has also become an annual fixture in the UK and elsewhere.

In the UK, some stores open as early as 6am to accommodate bargain hunters.

But for online shoppers, deals can start from midnight onwards.

Black Friday falls on the Friday after the annual US holiday of Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each November.

This year, Black Friday is on November 27.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that these predictions will come true as most stores have yet to officially announce when their sales will begin.

We also don’t know what type of discounts will be on offer, or whether sales will be both in-store or online.

If you’re in the market for toys, we’ve also taken a look at when toy sales will start at shops including Asda and Morrisons.

As always, we’d recommend comparing prices frequently to make sure you’re getting the cheapest price.

This is especially important for Black Friday as previous research has shown the best bargains can sometimes be found a day before.

Shoppers can use a comparison tool, such as PriceSpy or Google Shopping, to check prices beforehand.

Here’s what to expect from Black Friday 2020:

Argos – November 23

Argos‘ sale is expected to start on Monday, November 23 – four days before Black Friday.

The retailer hasn’t confirmed if this is definitely the case, or what savings it’ll be running, but we’ve asked for more information.

Last year, Argos started its Black Friday sale on November 22 with discounts across popular brands like Apple, Dyson and more.

For example, shoppers saw a Hitachi 50″ smart TV reduced from £369.99 to £249.99.

The retailer also knocked down the price of Beats by Dre Solo 3 headphones from £139.95 to £119.95.

Amazon – End of October

Amazon began launching Black Friday deals from the end of October – a month earlier than when the retailer started its Black Friday sales in 2019.

The online giant kicked off its Black Friday offerings on Monday, November 23 last year, with “lightning deals” and “deals of the day” on offer for seven days until Sunday, November 29.

Its deals spanned across all sections, including tech, toys, beauty and homeware.

Some of the top discounts included a Shark hoover reduced from £249.99 to £119.99, plus a Nintendo Switch console for £179 instead of £195.

Next – November 27

Next is expected to kick off its Black Friday sales on November 27, which is when Black Friday officially starts.

When we asked the retailer if this was true, a spokesperson told us they won’t be revealing the sale date until nearer the time.

In the past, Next has seen customers queue from as early as 6am to take advantage of its discounts – with its 2019 offering boasting up to 70% off clothes.

For example, shoppers in 2019 picked up an Ecru One shoulder Ruffle Top for £8 instead of £28, and a Pinstripe Polo for £7.50, down from £27.

Next launched its Black Friday sale on November 29 last year, the official day of Black Friday.

Currys PC World – November 11

Currys PC World fans can apparently start expecting Black Friday discounts from Wednesday, November 11.

Again, we don’t know for certain if this will be the case, but we’ve asked the retailer for more information.

Last year, Currys PC World started its Black Friday sales on November 15, with discounts on TV and audio, appliances, computer, phones and gaming.

Some of the best savings included an Apple iPhone 11 Pro 64GB for £1,009 instead of £1,049.

The Entertainer – November 9

Parents who are looking to stock up on toys for Christmas will want to put Monday, November 9 in their diary, as this is when The Entertainer will start its sales.

Money Saver Online predicted its discounts would begin on November 20, but the retailer has since confirmed to The Sun that they’ll actually start over one week earlier.

Last year, The Entertainer had up to 80% off toys, with its Black Friday sale starting on November 22.

Discounts included a Bop It! Maker game down from £15 to £8, and its Nerf Laser Ops Classic 2 pack for £10 instead of £25.

Black Friday 2020 shopping tips

IT might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items on Black Friday, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal.

Prepare: Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. By preparing a list of what you’re actually after, you can avoid impulsive spends.

Compare prices: Never pay more than you have to. Websites like PriceSpy, PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay.

Get following: Follow your favourite shops on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and sign up to its deals newsletter to get the latest on any offers. We post the best deals in our Sun Money FB group too.

Get there early: Each branch usually has only a few of the best headline deals, so be first in line. Check times too, as some stores open their doors extra early. Online sales can start as early as midnight.

Keep your receipts: You may get caught up in the excitement and end up buying more than you need. Keeping the receipts means you can do returns.

Use vouchers: Take a look at The Sun Vouchers, and see if you can get extra savings with discount codes.

Superdrug – November 11 or 14

Superdrug shoppers can supposedly expect its Black Friday sales to start on either Wednesday, November 11 or Saturday, November 14.

As this is just a prediction, we’ve asked Superdrug if it can confirm either of these dates.

The beauty retailer started its Black Friday sale on November 27 last year, so just two days before the actual event.

Its Health and Beautycard members got exclusive access to certain deals, but it’s not clear if this will be the case this year.

For example, members could pick up a BaByliss Smooth Vibrancy Curling Wand for £19.49 instead of £27.99.

Halfords – November 17

Halfords has confirmed to The Sun that its Black Friday deals will start on Tuesday, November 17 this year.

However, it’s remaining tight-lipped on what deals customers will find.

It’s expected that there will be discounts on in-car technology, tools and workshop, car cleaning and scooters.

Halfords had up to 20% products last year, with its Black Friday offerings on November 15.

Some of the best deals included a Frozen 2 Folding In-line Scooter for £20 rather than £25, plus a Mini Cooper Convertible Ride On Car for £55 instead of £99.

Studio – November 9 or 16

Studio shoppers may start to find Black Friday deals from either Monday, November 9 or Monday, November 16.

Last year, Studio rolled out discounts all throughout November.

We’ve asked if this will be the case again and we’re awaiting a response.

Some of the top bargains from 2019 included a Unicorn 6v Battery Quad Bike for £27.99, down from £79.99.

Matalan – November 21

Black Friday could start as early as Saturday, November 21 at Matalan.

Again, we’ve asked if this date is accurate, and what deals they’ll have, and we’ll update this article.

But last year the Matalan Black Friday sale started on Monday, November 25, with up to 50% off clothing.

For example, the retailer knocked down the price of girls pink floral dress from £4.50 to £2, and its belted denim skirt from £16 to £8.

The Works – November 20

The Works told The Sun an exact date for their Black Friday sales is still “to be confirmed” – but Money Saver Online reckons it could begin on Friday, November 20.

Last year, the retailer started doing three toys for £12 just one day before Black Friday.

The sale ran right up until December 2, meaning there was plenty of time for shoppers to nab a bargain.

Other discounts included a wooden unicorn table and chairs set for £30 instead of £50.

Why wait until Black Friday? We’ve rounded up 11 bargains and discounts to get hundreds of pounds off in September.

Plus, here are the discounts you can get eating out with the “extended” Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
