Twitter user @lottidot appears to have started the meme trend. She tweeted a response to a thread about coronavirus and it ended up going viral.
It’s one of a flurry of conspiracy theories that have cropped up in recent weeks linking supernatural events to December 21.
Later today, Saturn and Jupiter will form a bright “double star” phenomenon in the sky.
The event has sparked many conspiracy theories and viral jokes. One claims that black people will get superpowers on the same day.
It says: “As black people, genetically we are stronger and smarter than everyone else, we are more creative, on December 21 our Real DNA will be unlocked and majority will be able to do things that we thought were fiction.
“Learn who u are as a people they wanna make us average.”
This tweet led many people to start joking about unlocking superpowers on the day of the December solstice.
People have also started to debate whether they’d want to be a superhero or a villain.
There’s also some discussion on whether you’d rather belong to a DC or Marvel universe.
The trend has led to funny memes all over Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
What is the ‘Christmas star’ visible on December 21?
The superpower idea may be make believe but the Jupiter Saturn phenomenon is guaranteed to take place.
The “Christmas star” is when two astronomical bodies meet in a celestial dome called the Great Conjunction.
On December 21, Saturn and Jupiter will appear just 0.1 degrees apart, the closest conjunction since 1623.
The planets will move so close that their brightness will merge to appear as one bright light.
Their alignment, according to astrologers, represents a changing of an era, and a time where we shift our way of viewing the world.
Some people have argued that the Great Conjunction could have been the Biblical Star of Bethlehem that guided the Three Wise Men to the baby Jesus.
However, not all Bible experts have accepted this theory.
Other conspiracy theorists have linked it to the end of the world.
In other news, a beer can placed over a telescope and then forgotten about for eight years may have created the longest-exposure photo ever taken.
