CRACKING open that first door of an advent calendar on December 1 is a magical moment.
But I can’t believe how expensive they can be — I’ve even seen some that cost more than £100.
However, you don’t need to break the bank this Christmas. Instead, make a date with one of these brilliant bargains . . .
That’s the spirit: Bag a boozy advent calendar for less at B&M.
The 12 Gin And Tonics Of Christmas calendar is on offer for £29.99, down from £34.99. If you’re more partial to a glass of wine, the Three Mills 24 British Wines advent calendar is also on offer for £29.99, down from £34.99.
SAVE: £5
Supermarket swaps: Treat yourself to the indulgent Thorntons Continental advent calendar. At Sainsbury’s, it is on offer for £9, down from £11. But to save even more cash, buy it from Tesco instead, where it’s on offer for £7, down from £10.
SAVE: £3 at Tesco
Sweet deal: Ditch the chocolate for a treat-size sweet every day with the Haribo advent calendar. It’s £5 at Wilko, but just £3.99 at B&M. I know where I’d go.
SAVE: £1.01 at B&M
Read all about it: Story book advent calendars were a huge hit last year and I imagine they will be this year too. The Disney Storybook Collection advent calendar is on offer for £16.99 at very.co.uk, but at Asda it is currently £7, as is the Marvel Storybook Collection calendar.
Pick ’n’ mix: Why not fill your own advent calendar? It costs more upfront but in the long run it will save you, as it’s reusable. For example, the Advent Tree Calendar from Paperchase is on offer for £12.60, down from £18, and you can fill it with whatever treats you like. I tend to buy sharing bags of Haribo and a tub of sharing chocolates to fill mine.
