IF you want to make some extra cash ahead of Christmas, there’s plenty of companies hiring seasonal workers.

From delivery driving and warehouse work to sitting at the checkout counter there’s plenty of opportunities to earn a little extra in the run up to the festive period.

Here’s our of the companies that are already hiring as well as the type of work available, how much they pay and how to apply.

Amazon

Amazon has started recruitment for more than 20,000 seasonal workers ahead of this Christmas.

There’s roles available now across the country for either full time or part time workers.

Pay starts at a minimum of £10.50 per hour in the London area and £9.50 per hour in other parts of the UK for all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal roles.

Night shift workers often earn more with most roles we could see offering between £11.21 and £12.76 per hour.

If you really want to rake in the cash, you might be able to pick up overtime worth up to £21.60 per hour.

There’s loads of bonuses available, subject to start date, location, attendance and shift worked.

This is made up of £50 paid weekly subject to attendance and a £250 bonus if you work up to December 24 2020.

Argos

Argos are looking for seasonal workers and even offer a 10% discount for employees in Argos and Sainsbury’s.

  1. Telling lies
  2. Spelling errors
  3. Including a selfie as a picture
  4. Having a rude or inappropriate email address

Job roles available include customer service advisors, stock assistants and delivery drivers.

Delivery drivers typically earn £9 per hour and an extra £1 an hour while driving.

Contracts are 12-15 hours per week with overtime opportunities until December 31 2020.

Customer services advisors typically earn £9 per hour and work 15 hours per week.

Stock assistants also earn £9 per hour, but lots of the roles are based in the evenings, part-time at 20 hours per week working between 5.00pm and 1.30am.

Asda

Asda usually hires seasonal workers, but they’re not yet live on the recruitment website.

However, there are several part time roles currently available, however it looks like these are year round rather than just for Christmas.

Boots

Boots is currently recruiting for seasonal customer advisors and customer assistants.

There are various shift patterns available to fit around almost any schedule. Unfortunately Boots doesn’t say how much its hourly rate is on the website.

Debenhams

Debenhams currently has 14 Christmas roles advertised on its website, with contracts varying from 16 hours up to 30.

Pay for under 21 year olds varies from £6.64 to £6.74 depending on location. Pay for over 21s varies from £8.72 to £8.82.

John Lewis and Waitrose

John Lewis has several roles available for seasonal workers including retail sales assistants, stock assistants, catering assistants, food hall assistants and supermarket assistants.

There’s loads of information on the website, including what they expect from each of the roles and more details about the recruitment process.

Jobs started going live at the end of August, but, there’s still some positions available, so it is well worth a check. Some deadlines are at the end of this month so you might want to move quickly.

The typical salary varies between £8.87 and £13.23 per hour depending on which role you apply for and where you are based.

Lidl

Lidl doesn’t have any seasonal jobs up on its website yet, but there are plenty of part-time roles available.

The discounter pays at least £9.30 per hour outside of London, with wages starting from £10.75 inside London.

Part time roles include cleaners, customer assistants and warehouse operatives. There’s currently 143 vacancies for part-time workers.

Tools to use to help you write your CV

HERE are some tools and apps that can help you put together your CV:

  • Resume app: If you struggle formatting your CV, you can choose from 21 templates in the Resume app to help you. And once you’ve put it together, you can export it as a PDF directly to your email. Resume is free to download and use, but has additonal premimum options that you can pay for.
  • Grammarly: It’s important to get your spelling and grammar accurate, so run your CV through a tool such as Grammarly to check for any errors. It’s free to download straight to your desktop.
  • Vizualize.me: If you’ve got an exisiting LinkedIn account, Vizualize.me takes the data and turns it into a timeline of your employment history and a breakdown of your skills. The free tool has six different themes so it’s a good option to make your CV look visually appealing as well.
  • VisualCV: As well as making your CV look eye catching, VisualCV also makes sure it can be read by electronic systems that some recruiters use to filter CVs. It’s also free to sign up for.

Morrisons

Morrisons has started recruiting for temporary roles in the run up to Christmas.

There’s lots of opportunities in the warehouses, manufacturing sites and across the many stores nationwide.

You can search Morrisons job site here – but unfortunately it doesn’t let you sort by temporary work, so you’ll have to dig through to find a opening that’s suitable.

Morrisons doesn’t share hourly rates on its jobs site, but describes them as competitive.

M&S

M&S offers temporary roles all year round, but opportunities really ramp up in the run up to Christmas.

It doesn’t publish it’s rates of pay, but it describes wages as “competitive” and you’ll also get a 20% discount on all in-store and online M&S purchases.

There’s no limit on the amount of goods you can buy with the discount – and you can even extend it to a partner or family member who lives permanently with you.

Poundland

Poundland is looking for sales assistants in the run up to Christmas.

Salary isn’t specified and you need to apply by November 20 if you want to land a role.

Royal Mail

The Royal Mail has just launched a campaign looking for 33,000 workers over the festive period.

Primarily it is looking for staff to help sort the Christmas post and the increasing amount of online shopping parcels.

Positions are available from late October through until early January 2021.

Additional workers are also required for Royal Mail’s dedicated COVID-19
testing kit collection team.

Other sorting and driving roles are on offer in Royal Mail logistics and at
the Heathrow international hub. There are also temporary positions in data
inputting.

Parcelforce Worldwide is also looking for drivers and indoor workers as the whole organisation gears up to deliver parcels this Christmas.

Pay varies by region, but all of the job specs clearly state an hourly rate. Most we saw started at £9.50 per hour, but there were a few locations paying a lower rate of £8.72 per hour.

Tesco

Tesco is already recruiting festive workers with a wide range of roles available. In total, the supermarket plans to hire 11,000 temporary colleagues.

These UK-wide roles, in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores, include picking for online deliveries and store replenishment, supporting existing store colleagues.

To apply for a festive colleague job in store, you’ll need to register and create a profile. 

The online application form includes some questions and a test – you’ll also need to submit right to work documents.

If you’re successful you’ll be invited into an interview where you can find out more about the role.

Tesco doesn’t publish its hourly wages on the site, or the specific hours you’ll work.
