Vaccinations are making their way to the public and as society returns to the real world, a new innovation aims to keep them safe.

BioIntelliSense debuted its new BioButton at the first-ever all-digital Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that monitors users’ vitals to detect potential coronavirus symptoms and has been cleared for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The coin-sized device attaches to the skin with a medical adhesive and uses sensor to track the wearer’s skin temperature, respiratory and heart rate, activity level and sleep quality.

The data is then sent to a companion app that calculates the measurements to determine if the person is at risk of developing coronavirus symptoms – even before they themselves feel ill.

Hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe make the trek to Las Vegas, Nevada around this time to feast their eyes on the latest and greatest technologies.

This year is very different, as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was forced to host the popular event entirely online due to the lingering pandemic.

But the new venue has not stopped companies from showing off their new innovations and many of them are related to the virus.

BioButton is a disposable wearable that continuously monitors vitals over the course of a few days and up to 90 days.

The vital sign trends are then sent through the device’s proprietary biosensor technology and advanced analytics to determine if the user could potentially come down with symptoms of the coronavirus.

The list of symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath and fatigue, but new ones say the virus can cause loss of taste or smell.

The companion app, called BioMobile, offers users daily screen surveys that provide ‘Cleared’ or ‘Not Cleared’ notifications – the app is available for on both iOS and Android.

BioIntellilSense also received the ‘Best of Innovation’ award at CES 2021, which is given to only the highest-rated product in each category and is not assured for any category in any year unless the total scores for a product exceed an exceptional threshold.

James Mault, MD, CEO of BioIntelliSense, said in a statement: ‘We are extremely honored to be named Best of Innovation as a CES 2021 Innovation Award honoree.’

‘The commercial launch of the BioButton COVID-19 symptom screening and vaccine monitoring solution is timely in addressing the growing challenge of safe return to worksites, school, travel, conferences and entertainment.’

‘The BioButton is the newest addition to our biosensor portfolio and data services model for public health and clinical applications that span infectious disease, orthopedics, oncology, and cardiac care.”

Although the BioButton is capable of identifying symptoms of an infection within a few days, it is not yet capable of determining the difference between the coronavirus and the flu.
