Alarming rise in cases puts pressure on ministers to act as Nicola Sturgeon imposes Scotland crackdown

Swathes of the north of England could see pubs and restaurants restricted within days in a scramble to stem an alarming rise in coronavirus cases, as Nicola Sturgeon announced a nationwide crackdown on indoor drinking in Scotland.

Ministers will meet again on Thursday to try to come to a resolution, along with local leaders, on what harsher measures should be imposed following what Sturgeon described as “short, sharp action” for Scotland.
