THEY are the pandemic pups, with more and more of us getting a pooch to cheer us up in lockdown.
But a dog comes with responsibility — and repair costs, if you are not careful.
Dog food firm tails.com has savvy tips for pup-proofing your home . . .
TRAINING PADS: The younger your pooch is, the harder they find it to control their bladder. Training pads, a waterproof bed or both can help, and prevent ruined furniture and slippy floors.
My tip: Head to wowcher.co.uk where you can get 100 pads for £10.99 — cheaper than petplanet.co.uk where they sell for £14.99.
PUPPY GATES: Pups are curious and if you leave them alone — and you should for short periods, to increase independence — a gate is the best way to keep them out of a particular room or away from small children or other pets.
CHECK YOUR PLANTS: Many of us have bought indoor plants to perk ourselves up, but with a new pup it is important to ensure the inside and outside of your home are free of plants or flowers that may be toxic to them, such as lavender, eucalyptus, and peonies. Pop these out of reach.
NON-TOXIC CLEANING: Pups are messy but do check cleaning products do not contain any chemicals that can be harmful to a dog, such as bleach, ammonia, formaldehyde, glycol ethers and chlorine.
My tip: Zoflora is good value — and there is a pet-friendly one. Therange.co.uk has it for £3.99 for 500ml — cheaper than direct from Zoflora for £5.99.
