The broadcasting media is a ruthless and unforgiving occupational hazard. Standards are understandably high and should always be maintained.

That is taken as read. However, presentation is now very much in the vanguard and in some cases seems to have superseded content.

Once the grey hairs, the bald pates, wrinkles, and tucks start appearing, it is time to move on to allow the younger generation to set down their stall.

But, some of us from the world of business and finance are frankly not ready to leave the stage. So, what can we do to continue to make a modest contribution?

At the beginning of the year, Dick Matthews, Martyn Kirk, Graham Mansfield and I, all mature ex-money brokers thought it might be fun to make some podcasts about their escapades and experiences in the money markets over the past forty years.

Having considered the idea more closely, it was decided that the subject matter would only appeal to a limited number of people.

Producing a competitive platform would require podcasts from a well-known eclectic collection of luminaries from the world of business, entertainment, culture, sport, and politics. Then we could mingle our podcasts intermittently with our distinguished guests.

So, the ‘Great Wave of Change Podcast’ was created, and we added Michael Wilson, who enjoyed 25 special years as business editor at Sky Business News, to our ranks to help with the podcasts.

How to listen to the latest Great Wave of Change podcast

In the final episode of season one of the Great Wave of Change podcast, music industry insurance expert Martin Goebbels shares his experiences with the likes of the Rollingstones, U2, Nelson Mandela and the Pope!

You can listen to the latest podcast via Spotify, Apple or Global Player.

Though we have only been in action for a few weeks, we have conducted very successful podcasts with Piers Morgan, Martin Semmens, who is chief executive of Southampton Football Club, and Lee McQueen, winner of ‘The Apprentice’ in 2008.

Other notable guest speakers include Lord Michael Spencer, celebrated journalist and LBC radio broadcaster Nick Ferrari, the three doyens of financial journalism, namely Mickey Clark, Justin Urquart-Stewart and Robert Miller, and Martin Goebbels, insurer of so many great musical giants.

In the next few week Sandie Small from the Bank of England, celebrated financier Bob Diamond, Andrew Love, the deputy chairman of the Ritz Hotel, the immortal golfer, Sir Nick Faldo, and Jeremy Cowdrey, representing Kent County Cricket Club, will be among some of our many guests.

We want them to not only tell us about their achievements in life, but also to elucidate their views on what the future holds in store for their chosen careers or businesses.
