SKY customers have been racking their brains as to why their TV boxes aren’t working in all their bedrooms.
There could be some secret Wi-Fi killers in there, but Sky Q is beamed into homes via satellite and not via the internet.

In a help forum on Sky’s website, one customer wrote: “We have a mini box in all three bedrooms but only two can be used at once.
“What is the point of this? I was never told this when I purchased them.”
Customers can have a maximum of four mini boxes loaned to them by Sky.
Viewers can watch Sky on two minis and the main box at the same time.
However, it’s not possible to watch Sky on all three mini boxes – because two minis alongside the main box is the maximum capacity for the broadcast service.
Sky customers may be able to use the third mini box at the same time while watching TV via one of the apps, such as Netflix – or even Sky Go on an iPhone, Android, or gaming console.
If you have an original 1TB (non-UHD) Sky Q box, then you’ll only be able to watch Sky on one mini at a time.
While 2TBs and the UHD/HDR 1TB boxes permit two mini boxes.

It’s also important to note that equipment is loaned from Sky and not purchased, despite the £50 fee.
Another frustrated customer wrote: “I have the same problem. Spent £50 on buying an additional box for it to say I have got to have one of the others on standby!!
“It’s a pain in the bottom. You pay for Multiroom, yet you can’t watch it.”
Each mini box which is loaned to you will be subject to a one-off, upfront charge alongside an activation fee.
All Sky equipment is rendered useless as soon as you cancel your monthly Sky Q Multiscreen subscription.
The mini boxes – same as main Q box – will have to be returned when you cancel Multiscreen or Sky Q completely.
If they’re not returned, customers face fines which can rack up quickly if they’re not careful.
The charge depends on what equipment you haven’t returned to Sky, and are listed below:
- Sky Q 1TB box – £115
- Sky Q 2TB box – £135
- Sky Q Mini box – £50
- Sky Q Hub/Sky Broadband Hub – £50
- Sky Broadband Booster – £35
“You’ll be charged for every piece of equipment you don’t return,” Sky writes on its website.
“For example, if you didn’t return a Sky Q 2TB box, two Sky Q Mini boxes and a Sky Q Hub, you would be charged £270 in total.”
Failing to return your equipment and not paying outstanding fees can impact your credit score.
However, if you’ve contacted Sky before about a recent bereavement and the company has asked you to return the Sky-owned equipment, then no charges will apply.
