More than 56,000 tech workers have lost their jobs since the start of the year, as experts predict this could rise to over 150,000 by the end of 2024.
The tech industry has been plagued by layoffs since the beginning of 2023 when some of the world’s largest companies started to shrink teams in the face of economic uncertainty.
But figures suggest this trend has continued into 2024, with an estimated 56,858 people having lost their jobs so far.

Over 2,000 of these people worked for UK-based tech companies, according to job tracker site Layoffs.fyi.
But Dan Ives, tech analyst at Wedbush, has estimated that global layoffs will hit 150,000 by the end of this year as the industry ‘goes through a culling process to get more efficient’.
