Plus, Max and Pro have been among Apple’s game-changing iPhone models, all  equipped with the flashiest features of our time.

But leakers say that September may see an entirely new name brought into the iPhone family.

Andrew O’Hara of AppleInsider believes the so-called ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’ could hit markets next month, showcasing a much larger display and an impressive camera lens.

He claims these rumours were confirmed by numerous people, with Ultra being launched alongside the new Plus, Pro and standard models.

‘Multiple sources have told me Apple will indeed use the “iPhone 15 Ultra” monicker for the plus-sized pro phone,’ Mr O’Hara tweeted on Saturday.

WHAT IS A PERISCOPE LENS?

A periscope or folded camera lens can boost a smartphone’s zoom abilities by 5x or 10x.

Generally, these are made to be quite compact in order to use minimal space within the device’s internal structure.

If the iPhone Ultra were to implement a periscope lens it would be the first model to do so.

Apple’s competitors, such as Samsung and Huawei already use periscope lenses in their technologies.

‘This was an early rumor that got backpedaled. Most have since referred to it as iPhone 15 Pro Max.’

According to Mr O’Hara, the new iPhone 15 Ultra will have a periscope camera lens offering 10x optical zoom.

This will be the first iPhone model to have a lens of this sort, putting the tech titan in line with Samsung and Huawei, which sell devices capable of this.

Both the new 15 Ultra and Pro are also expected to be made of titanium, aligning with other rumours that have cropped up earlier in the year.

While titanium rivals steel in strength, it can be up to 45 per cent lighter, which could make these models far easier to carry.

Titanium can handle higher temperatures better than steel too, while also offering a similar level of protection against water damage.

Like previous speculation, Mr O’Hara thinks that mute ‘Action Buttons’ will appear on these models as well, replacing the toggle for the first time since 2007.

He added: ‘Both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra will be titanium, have the Action Button in place of the mute toggle, and likely get the new 3nm A17 Bionic chip.’

Mr O’Hara believes there’s an 80 per cent chance that the Ultra model will become a reality next month.

Rumours have previously suggested that Apple will hold its traditional September event on the 12th or 13th day of the month and pre-orders may go ahead a week later.

‘Nothing groundbreaking in the name but interesting how Apple positions it,’ Mr O’Hara continued.

‘Excited for there to be a reason — other than the screen and battery — to get the larger “pro” phone. Not long until we find out for sure!’
