SALE season is here – and it is going to be a bumper month – with many Black Friday bargains starting early.

With that in mind, I spoke to Cas Paton, CEO and founder of online marketplace OnBuy.com, for his top tips on nabbing a great deal . . .

PLAN EARLY: Write a shopping list ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday so you have time to research typical online prices.

My tip: Some sites will save down your shopping basket, so fill it with everything you want beforehand to up your chances of nabbing the goods you’re after. If the retailer doesn’t save baskets, you could add the things you want to your wish list.

SHOP IN ONE PLACE: Try to find all you want from the same site. By doing this, you’ll save time and hassle. This is where marketplaces are ideal.

My tip: If you can’t quite find everything for a bargain price in one place, bookmark the websites of the retailers you want to hit up. This way you won’t spend too much time searching the web. Every second counts, remember.

DON’T DELAY: Grab a good deal when you spot it. It’s easy to hold out for even more savings, but with deals constantly moving, it’s hard to predict which prices might be going up or down. My advice? Snap up a bargain while it’s there — before it goes.

My tip: A lot of stores may already start their deals this week and you may be able to snap up a great discount, but bigger discounts are still likely to drop on Black Friday, so set your alarms to ensure you don’t miss out.

BEWARE HIDDEN COSTS: Make sure delivery costs don’t turn your bargain into an accidental extravagance. And consider whether you or the person you are giving it to can return it easily if it isn’t right.

My tip: If you’re buying potential Christmas gifts in the sales, check the return policy before clicking to buy. Final-sale items can’t be swapped or returned, should you get a size or colour wrong.
