WIRELESS earbuds are now our favourite way of getting to hear all that great music.

Over-ear headphones still boast superior sound but buds are more convenient and the acoustics keep improving.

Apple was first to strike in 2016 with its AirPods.

But lots of rival brands have moved into the market for people wanting their music on the go, as well as at home.

New York brand Grado has just released its first set of wireless buds, the GT220.

The first thing you will notice is how lightweight they are.

Their black case has a futuristic feel to it, while four exterior lights show you the level of battery charge.

The earbuds curve attractively and a cool “G” lights up in various colours depending on what they are doing.

They fit into the ears nicely and stay secure with a twist-to-lock movement.

There is effective noise cancelling and the lightness means they stay comfortable to wear over long periods.

But what sets the GT220 apart is sound quality.

On that front, these blow Apple’s offerings clean out of the water.

Music comes through extremely clean and detailed, with lots of weight to the overall sound.

And I was pleasantly surprised by how satisfying the chunky bass was.

Using them is straightforward.

You control volume, select music, answer calls and activate Siri or Google Assistant by tapping or holding the earbuds.

But there is a slight lag, which takes a little getting used to.

A full charge gives you six hours of play, or up to 36 hours with fully charged earbuds and case.

If your top priority is sound, then Grado’s stellar audio reputation really shines through on the GT220.

You can pick up a pair for £249.95 at grado.co.uk, from Richer Sounds or on Amazon.

Its triple-lens camera has a zoom and ultra wide angle, plus night mode and video editing app Soloop is included.

It is also great for watching videos.

Don’t worry if you drain the battery with all these videos, as it only takes 36 minutes to fully recharged.

However, it lacks wireless charging and a headphone jack and it has got stiff competition in its price range.

But at £699 from EE or Carphone Warehouse the Reno4 Pro 5G is great if you want to shine on social media.

New viral app lets you deepfake your face into any GIF – and it’s hilarious
