HARD-UP millennials like electric blankets more than pensioners do because they help to cut heating bills, a poll shows.
Nearly half of 18 to 34-year-olds say they own one of the bed warmers.
It is more than twice as many as any other age group, including the over-55s, a fifth of whom have one.
They said they liked to snuggle down in a toasty bed while watching boxsets. But they also said it was a cheaper way to stay warm than cranking up the heating.
Electric blankets were must-haves for older people in the 1970s and 1980s. But their popularity among the young was revealed by a poll for bed company Silentnight.
They also found those in the chilly north are more likely to own one than those in the South.
Silentnight’s Hayley Chaytor said: “You might expect electric blankets to be more popular with the elderly or those nostalgic for the 70s and 80s. But they are something of a heating hack for young Brits.
“They love the cosy atmosphere and the bill-busting running costs in comparison to traditional central heating.”
