IT’S Bonfire Night – but with a difference.

While Covid’s put a damper on big displays, you can still enjoy safe fun at home on the cheap.

In a normal year, the average family spends up to £72 on party food and drink for a banging celebration.

But you won’t need to “Fawke” out half as much with these sparklers . . .

FIREWORKS: Lidl’s Standard Fireworks Knight’s Quest costs £24.99, in-store only. It contains 40 eye-catching shots. Similar kits cost around £60 elsewhere. Must be over 18 to buy.

SAVING: £35.01

FUN OF THE FARE: Many bonfire events feature fairground-style food, but you can easily recreate a similar experience at home.

I love a brioche bun with my burger, and Asda sells a pack of four for just 90p — cheaper than the Warburtons option for £1.35.

While you’re at Asda, grab its tasty Extra Special 4 Aberdeen Angus beef quarter-pounders, £2.84, down from £3. You can then get creative with your toppings, depending on tastes.

SAVING: 45p on buns

SWEET TREATS: Toasting your own marshmallows is always fun and kids will love getting involved around the bonfire. Epic Giant Toastin’ marshmallows are currently £3, down from £3.50 at Sainsbury’s.

You can even use clean twigs to toast them on to save extra money.

Alternatively, skintchef.co.uk has a DIY toffee apple recipe for just 34p per person. It’s cheaper than buying ready-made ones from Tesco at £1.

SAVING: 66p on the DIY toffee apples

SEASONAL SIPS: Keep warm with a hot toddy made from warmed whisky, lemon and honey. Lidl’s Ben Bracken Highland single malt comes in at £16.49.

Meanwhile, kids can be kept happy with hot chocolate, topped with spare marshmallows. Aero instant hot chocolate is on offer at Sainsbury’s for £1.50, down from £3.
