EVERY so often Pokémon Scarlet and Violet hold special events for ultra strong Pokémon.

If you and your friends can defeat them in battle, you will have the chance to catch one and you won’t want to miss out.

This week, you can catch The Mighty Blastoise, a super strong version of the Kanto starter with a Steel Tera type.

One Blastoise raid will appear every day from Tuesday, March 5, 2024, until Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Even if you defeat Blastoise multiple times, you will only be able to catch one, but you will be able to grab the rewards multiple times.

If you want to catch your own Mighty Blastoise in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, here’s what you need to know.

The Mighty Blastoise – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Blastoise is very defensive and sets up Iron Defense making physical attackers almost useless.

However, it can’t dish out too much damage in return, instead relying on chipping you down and stalling out the timer.

It can still pack a punch if its attacks deal Super Effective damage, so you’ll want something that isn’t weak to Water-, Steel-, and Fighting-type attacks.

Blastoise sets up Withdraw on turn one and then immediately puts up a barrier making it hard to attack.

After the barrier breaks, it will Shell Smash and set up Rain Dance, so it might be a good idea to bring your own weather to override it.

Here’s Blastoise’s full set.

The Mighty Blastoise – Level 100

  • Nature – Naive
  • Ability – Rain Dish
  • Item – None
  • Tera type – Steel
  • Move set – Withdraw, Iron Defense, Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon, Hydro Pump, Shell Smash, Rain Dance

Blastoise counters – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The best counter for the Blastoise raid is Gastrodon, which is a staple of seven-star raids.

With great typing, it resists most of Blastoise’s attacks and can hit back very hard with Earth Power.

What makes Gastrodon so strong is the ability Storm Drain, meaning it takes no damage from Hydro Pump and it also boosts its Special Attack.

If you are playing with friends, you can also use Chilling Water to boost up your teammates.

It also has support moves, Mud-Slap can lower Blastoise’s accuracy while Amnesia will boost your Special Defense, or you can lower its Special Attack with Skitter Smack.

Here’s the set we recommend:

Gastrodon – Level 100

  • Nature – Calm
  • Ability – Storm Drain
  • Item – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Ground
  • Move set – Mud-Slap, Chilling Water, Earth Power, Amnesia / Skitter Smack
