Paxson speaks about how the divorce impressed on her the importance of taking responsibility early in life. After being taken into the care of her grandparents and other family members, Paxson came to realize she would have to rely on her own wherewithal to get through some of the major moments in her life. These realizations, which proved challenging in her early years, helped Paxson build a sense of empathy towards other people as she moved through life.
