Aldi is the cheapest supermarket for your Christmas food shop

Tom broke down the costs of a standard Christmas meal at six major supermarkets for The Sun – and the cheapest may surprise you.

He revealed shopping at 10am on a Wednesday was the best time – name dropping Aldi as the best store to get your Christmas supper from.

Tom explained: “There’s a big price difference between the supermarkets, over £30 between the cheapest and most expensive. I compared the cheapest option at each shop for the eight items.

“Some shops have more items in their budget ranges than others, so it’s difficult to compare quality, but if you’re simply looking for value, Aldi is the one to go for.

MORE ON CHRISTMAS

“I recommend shopping at Aldi on a Wednesday. This is when they restock their regular items, so you should be able to get everything on your shopping list.

“Mornings tend to be quieter, so I always try to get in for around 10am. On Sundays, Aldi restocks speciality products. However, weekends are always busier, so I think Wednesday is your best bet.

“As well as the main Christmas dinner, Aldi has a great selection of party food for the festive season, and if you don’t mind spending a bit more there are lots of items in their Specially Selected range that would be perfect for the big day.

“For example, there’s a Gingerbread & Butterscotch Bombe pudding for £2.79, Sea Salt Chocolate & Caramel Pavlova Tower for £5.99 and Brussels Sprouts With Bacon, Maple Flavour Glaze & Butter, with lots more expected to launch as we get closer to Christmas”.
