THERE’S nothing like a relaxing soak after a tough day.

And you can add a little extra to your tub time by dropping a bath bomb in the water.

But you don’t need to splash out on a pricey shop version — it’s easy to make your own. . .

MIX IT UP: To make around four balls, mix together 100g of bicarbonate of soda (£2.50, B&Q), 50g of citric acid (£2.25, B&Q) and 50g of corn flour (£2.50, Tesco).

Then in a separate bowl pour two tablespoons of olive oil — sunflower or coconut oil work too.

From here you can get creative and add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil and a few drops of food colouring to the olive oil.

A little at a time, add the oil mix to the dry ingredients, whisking as you go.

You might need to add a further couple of drops of water to get the mixture damp enough to clump together. Keep whisking as you add any extra water drops.

GET IN SHAPE: Scoop your mixture into semi-sphere silicone moulds (£3, Amazon), tightly packing in the mixture so it binds together.

Leave to dry for around four hours.

To make a whole sphere, you will need to press together semi-spheres in their moulds and let them dry together.

Bath bombs don’t have to be round — you can set them in whatever shape mould you may have, such as stars.

I was shocked after a Lush bath bomb stained my tub bright yellow – I can’t get it off

USE YOUR CREATIVITY: Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can experiment with adding extra touches, such as flower petals. Simply press them into the moulds before adding the mixture.

You can add Epsom salts or biodegradable glitter (£2.50, Hobbycraft) when whipping up your bombs. The activity is great to do with older children.

BATH GIFT: Bath bombs are a lovely handmade gift. All you need do is wrap each one in cellophane and tie it together with a ribbon. Just be aware they can be fragile, so are best hand-delivered.
