Is the Post Office open on the bank holidays or New Year’s Day?

The majority of Post Offices are run by independent operators and its their decision on whether they open during the Christmas and New Year period.

Most Post Offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Many branches also shut their doors on bank holidays, including today (December 28), but some will be open.

Customers can check if their local branch is open and for what hours on the Post Office website.

Are Post Offices open in Tier 4 areas?

Non-essential retail is required to close in Tier 4 areas.

As the Post Office is classed as an essential retailer it is allowed to stay open.

What services does the Post Office offer?

As well as sending letters and parcels, you can also use your Post Office to access your high street bank account and make withdrawals, deposits, balance enquiries and more.

Customers can also verify documents via the Post Office’s GOV.UK services.

There may be delays to postal services over Christmas and New Year due to increased demand.
