A LOTTERY expert who calls people to tell them they have won has revealed the most surprising way winners react.

Andy Carter is a senior winners’ adviser at Camelot and has 19 years of experience in helping National Lottery winners make a smooth transition into the millionaire lifestyle.

He deals with people who have won £50,000 and above and believes he has given away around £2billion in winnings.

A major part of Andy’s job is to ensure the welfare of lottery winners.

And he has seen “all sorts” of reactions dealing with lucky ticket holders.

“If you’ve just found out you’ve won £5 million, you are probably going to be in shock,” Andy told Business Insider.

“Your brain will be going a thousand miles an hour. You probably have lots of questions. Some people are literally gabbing away at me. Other people are very, very quiet.

“I’ve had some people take the day off work because they’re waiting for my phone call. And I’ve had others who said: ‘I’m at work, I’m actually going into a meeting, can you call me tomorrow?’.”

He previously told The Sun Online that his advice for a new millionaire was to “do nothing”.

Andy said: “We would always say take your time, do nothing quickly, let it all sink in, have a holiday perhaps.

“What’s just happened is an amazing thing. If you win that’s a huge lifestyle change for the vast majority of people.”

“If someone wins they become part of quite a unique club, quite a difficult club to get into,” he added.

“But actually the great thing about that club is that there’s a whole load of support and advice from people who have been there.”

It comes after a woman who was living on Universal Credit has now become a millionaire thanks to two twists of fate.

Meanwhile a delivery man who scooped a life-changing £3.8million on the lotto spent the next working day “standing in the rain serving baskets of shopping”.

And a man has revealed how he lost out on a £3million lottery jackpot after purchasing a winning ticket – and the years-long ordeal that followed.
