A BRAND new smartphone packing a monstrous battery has been unveiled so you can go a week on a single charge, makers claim.

But tech nerds have pointed out a rather unfortunate side effect of having such colossal power – see in the video above for yourself.

A battery of this size makes the device physically huge and heavy, leaving some to describe the phone as “ugly” and like a “brick”.

The Energizer Hard Case P28K was revealed at a major mobile event in Barcelona this week by a company called Avenir Telecom, who licenses the popular brand from the battery manufacturer to use on phones.

It features a whooping 28,000mAh battery that the firm claims can last a whole week with regular usage.

That’s more than six times the size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery and 5.6 times that of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

But all that power needs to fit in somewhere, so the Hard Case P28K is a lot bulkier than your average smartphone.

It’s 27.8mm thick, which is 3.5 times the iPhone 15 Pro Max when factoring in the camera bump.

At 570g it’s a weighty beast too, making it three times as heavy as the latest iPhone, reports The Verge.

People have been commenting on the design and trade off for a massive battery.

“And as soon as people start using it, they instantly understand why no other company is doing that and rather compromises with a camera bump,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Doubles as a safety device in case you have to beat an attacker off,” another said.

A third joked: “You can use this as a phone, as a power bank and throw it like a deadly weapon too.”

On the upside, the company claims the Hard Case P28K can fully recharge in less than an hour and a half.

They also say that the Hard Case P28K can get little over five days of solid talk time, while the standby time is just short of 94 days.

Spec-wise, it’s worth noting that the device doesn’t support 5G.

On the inside there’s 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

And a triple camera set up has 60-megapixel, 20-megapixel and 2-megapixel lenses.

But the price is pretty cheap, Avenir Telecom plans release the handset in October for €250 / £214 / $270 – though it won’t be available in the US.
