Online retailer Very enjoyed a record-breaking Christmas as shoppers splashed out during lockdown.
The Liverpool group, which runs Very.co.uk and Littlewoods and is owned by the billionaire Barclay brothers who also own the Telegraph newspapers, said sales in the seven weeks up to Christmas gained 18 per cent year-on-year to hit £500 million.
DIY purchases tripled, and there was a big rise in the number of beds and soft furnishings sold.
Best-sellers included Apple airpods, fleece pillows and smart speakers.
A partnership with actress Michelle Keegan (pictured) – whose stay-at home-clothes, which include knitwear and pyjamas – also proved popular.
Chief executive Henry Birch said: ‘We are delighted with the performance, which shows UK families were more determined than ever to celebrate this Christmas, despite all the challenges of 2020.
‘We were perfectly placed to help a record number of people make the most of the festive period. While the economic picture remains unpredictable, we have strong momentum as we begin the year.’
Very was formed by Littlewoods and Shop Direct merging in 2005.
