GAMERS will almost certainly be able to get their hands on a PS5 this week as seven top UK retailers are planning restocks.
Argos dropped the coveted console last night and, although the site doesn’t always show stock, rumours are there are enough consoles to last until the end of today, with new stock is being drip-fed all the time.
So it will pay to keep refreshing the Argos PS5 page as consoles could drop any time over the next 36 hours.
Meanwhile Very, Game, John Lewis and BT are all expected to get restocks today, while an error message on Amazon’s PS5 page left shoppers furious
After thinking they’d found a console in stock and added it to their basket, a pop-up message appeared telling them any orders made “will not have processed at this time”.
Since its launch last November, millions of gamers around the world have struggled to bag a PlayStation 5.
With restock rumours swirling continually, only the quickest off the mark at shops like Very and Amazon have been able to pick one up so far.

Currys is expected to be the next major retailer to restock PS5 consoles, according to social media rumours.
It is believed the drop could be as early as this morning.
Gamers will be need to be quick, however, as stock sells out within minutes.

BAD DRIFT
Gamers are suing Sony over an alleged issue with PlayStation 5 controllers that causes them to “drift” during gameplay.
In a class-action suit recently filed in the US, a law firm claims that faulty controller joysticks are registering movement even when a player doesn’t touch them.
They claimed that the next-gen console’s DualSense joypad – which costs just shy of £60 – is “defective”, Eurogamer reports.
The bug “results in characters or gameplay moving on the screen without user command or manual operation of the joystick,” the filing reads.

‘PLAYING INTO HANDS OF SCALPERS’
Fed-up gamers have suggested retailers are “playing into the hands of scalpers” by releasing stock in the early hours of the morning.
It comes after both Argos and John Lewis did restocks during nighttime hours.
Since it was released last year, many have struggled to get their hands on a PS5 console as stock drops often sell out within minutes.

John Lewis restocked the sought-after PS5 this morning.
Many gamers have been left frustrated, however, as after getting to the payment page the device was flagged as sold out.
According to reports on social media, the retailer went live with stock at around 5am and sold out within two minutes.
In a similar move, Argos dropped stock during the night yesterday.

GET AHEAD OF THE QUEUE
Gamers wanting to get their hands on a PS5 can get ahead in the queue by signing up to a stock checker.
These online tools monitor a range of different retailers to find out when a product is available to buy again.

It means PS5 units are still going for exorbitant sums on websites like eBay.
The Sun saw listings as high as £1,000, which is £550 more than the actual console price.
And when viewing “completed listings”, buyers had paid well over £700 to secure a console.
Sony has promised more stock in 2021.

THE PRICE IS WRONG!
PlayStation owners are flogging their brand new consoles for more than double the price on eBay.
The PS5 has been out for around three months – but they’re fiendishly difficult to get a hold of.
Resellers were peddling the console for thousands of pounds in the days after launch.
But even two months into 2021, the PS5 is still in such high demand that people are selling the console for £1,000 on eBay.
Sony launched the PS5 in mid November, charging £350 for the digital version and £450 for the full-fat console with a disc tray.

WHY NOT DONATE YOUR OLD CONSOLE
If you have been lucky enough to get your hands on a PS5, you may have an old console you no longer use.
There is a charity which collects in old devices and games and takes them to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities where children are beign cared for.
On its website, Get Well Gamers says: “Your donated games and consoles help us bring joy to thousands of children and young people in hospitals across the country.
“Video games are an effective and proven pain management tool, providing much-needed entertainment for young people during long hospital stays or in circumstances in which recreational activities can be beneficial.”

“The crazy thing is, this PS5 actually works,” the 22-year-old said in a video uploaded to YouTube this month.
“These controllers actually control everything you see on the screen.”
In the video, ZHC showed off the machine’s capabilities, including footage of him playing Minecraft using the immense Dualsense controller.
The joysticks are so large that he has to move them with his palms.

HIGH SCORE
An influencer has bought the world’s biggest PlayStation 5 – a fully functional console standing 10ft tall and weighing 230 kilos.
In a recent video, American YouTube star Zachary “ZHC” Hsieh said that he purchased the bonkers contraption coupled with a gigantic, working controller for $70,000 (£50,000).
ZHC, who boasts over 19million subscribers on the video platform, said he then spent 100 hours customising the behemoth with a colourful paint job.
It’s apparently 100 times larger than a bog standard PS5, which Sony launched in November 2020.

ONLINE REPORTS OF ‘DUALSENSE DRIFT’
The class action suit against Sony [see below] was filed by US law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP on February 12.
In its filing against Sony, the complaint cites multiple online reports of DualSense drift on social media.
“Customers are experiencing long wait times and having to deal with a maze of pre-recorded phone prompts before finally speaking with an agent concerning repairs for DualSense controller drift,” the complaint reads.

PS5 HAS BETTER BLU-RAY PLAYER THAN XBOX SERIES X
The PS5 has one major advantage over bitter rival the Xbox Series X, according an audio-visual geek.
Vincent Teoh from YouTube channel HDTVTest carried out an in-depth comparison of the consoles’ Blu-Ray players, and found Sony’s machine came out on top.
After placing the two consoles side-by-side, he showed that the PS5 avoids frame rate stutters during playback, which the Series X is prone too.
Microsoft’s powerhouse also doesn’t display 12-bit color, leading to less chroma bandwidth than Sony’s machine.

The full PS5 costs £449/$499, while a Digital Edition without a disc tray is priced at £359/$399.

SONY SOLD MILLION OF PS5 CONSOLES LAST YEAR
Sony sold 4.5 million PlayStation 5 units in 2020 amid high demand for the next-generation console in the lead-up to Christmas.
It is the same amount as the Japanese tech giant sold of its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, when it launched in 2013.
