NANDO’S is making a major change to its loyalty scheme and customers can save £20 – but there’s one major catch.

The home of peri-peri chicken is doubling the amount of loyalty points customers can get on any orders over £7.

But there’s a catch – the offer is only running across UK and Ireland restaurants between November 13 and November 19.

That means you’ve got just six days to boost your points.

Under the deal, chicken fans who spend £7 or more will receive two “Chillies” instead of one on their Nando’s Rewards card.

Customers who build up enough Chillies can then redeem them for free food.

For example, foodies who bag themselves three Chillies can get a free ¼ chicken, three wings, or starter.

Meanwhile, customers who build up six Chillies can pick up a free ½ chicken, single burger, pitta or wrap.

And those who wait until they’ve got 10 Chillies open up a free whole chicken, meal with regular sides or a salad or bowl.

That means if you buy separate meals on two trips worth £7 or more, you will have enough Chillies to nab a free starter, three wings or ¼ chicken.

If you bought separate meals on three trips worth £7 or more, you will have enough Chillies to claim a free half chicken, single burger or pitta or wrap.

In money terms, without factoring in Nando’s latest offer, you would have to spend £28 to get four Chillies and claim a freebie.

But under the chain’s latest promotion you will only have to spend £14.

Meanwhile, to build up six Chillies and claim a free ½ chicken, single burger, pitta or wrap, you would normally have to spend £42.

But, under the offer, you will only have to spend £21 – that’s a £21 saving.

We have approached Nando’s to find out if any points accrued between November 13 and 19 will roll over after the offer expires and will update this story when we have heard back.

Remember too, to only buy a meal from Nando’s if you were going to in the first place.

It’s not worth spending more than you would have ordinarily just to get the additional points.

You can download the Nando’s Rewards scheme on to your smart phone via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

You can also sign up via the chain’s website and then add the digital card to the your smart phone wallet.

Customers registering for the first time will also get a bonus Chilli.

How else to save money at Nando’s

Beyond the loyalty point offer, there’s a few ways you can save money next time you’re at Nando’s.

If you’re a group that’s big enough, try buying a combined meal instead or ordering separately.

Research by moneysavingexpert.com found you can save up to £10 opting for platters rather than individual meals.

For example, if you’re ordering two whole chickens and five large sides, it’ll cost you £60.05 if you’re buying the items separately.

But if you go for the “Family Platter” instead, you’ll pay £49.95 – £10.10 less.

Meanwhile, if you’re a fan of Perinaise, you could save some cash by making your own.

A pot of the sauce costs £1.15 and is in essence just a mixture of mayonnaise and Peri Peri sauce.

But you can ask for a free portion of mayo at the counter and then stir in your Peri Peri sauce of choice from the condiments bar.
