The Sun was invited for an exclusive tasting of the new dish to see if it lives up to its reputation.

The Extra McSpicy is joining menus on February 7 and Maccies has said it will be the “spiciest and tastiest” burger yet.

The twist on the original burger will be available in all UK and Ireland restaurants, at drive-thrus and via home delivery apps.

The latest iteration of the burger comes after the McSpicy was first introduced back in 2021.

McDonald’s made the McSpicy a permanent addition to the menu last year, but fans haven’t been overly impressed with the flavour.

Diners branded it “underwhelming” and “mild” so Maccies has decided to up its game with the new addition.

To do this, the home of the Big Mac has collaborated with popular hot sauce brand Frank’s.

The usual crispy burger is topped with the RedHot mayo and jalapenos to give it the extra kick spice fans are after.

But how does it taste and is it as hot as Maccies says?

The new McSpicy really does live up to its name. It’s very spicy.

But not too spicy it’s inedible – which is what I had been worried about.

I’ve tried the original before and felt it had a bit of a kick but hadn’t really achieved the heat levels I had expected.

But the collab with Frank’s is just what spice fans have been craving.

The chicken breast itself was a hefty size and covered in a zingy coating, which meant it had an appetising crunch to it.

Another fresh change to the burger is the addition of a slice of Emmental cheese.

This was a welcome inclusion, helping to partly offset the spice from the mayo.

On top of the cheese is a helping of sliced jalapenos, adding even more of a kick to the dish.

This is all topped with lettuce before a sizeable drizzle of Frank’s RedHot mayonnaise.

On the first bite, I was taken aback by the spicy kick, but this worked well in combination with the lettuce and cheese.

Even the jalapenos actually helped cool down the initial heat due to their freshness, although after a few bites, my mouth was mildly on fire.

I particularly enjoyed both the spicy and cool flavours sandwiched between the sesame bun, which I think complemented each other well.

Spice is always subjective, and I’m sure some won’t find the burger spicy enough while others won’t be able to finish the whole thing.

But for me, I felt like it was just the right amount, not excessively hot and not as mild as the original.

The original McSpicy has been compared to a Zinger Burger from KFC in the past.

I found the new and improved version is a step up, much more of a kick than a zing.

I didn’t want to put it down and could have easily finished the whole thing – maybe followed by a McFlurry or a milkshake though to cool things off.

Foodies looking to snag the new addition will have to be fast as it’s only on menus for six weeks.

Maccies fans will pay £5.59 for just the burger and £7.29 as part of a meal, which includes fries and a drink.

Thomas O’Neil, head of menu at McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “This collaboration with Frank’s RedHot gave us such an exciting opportunity to build on an already iconic product and create something genuinely spicy but also delicious.”

What else is being added to the McDonald’s menu?

McDonald’s is also gearing up to launch two never-before-seen pink desserts and a fan-favourite burger on February 7.

Among the new items are the KitKat Ruby Chocolate McFlurry and Raspberry and White Chocolate Pie.

The KitKat Ruby Chocolate McFlurry mixes soft ice cream with Ruby Chocolate-covered KitKat pieces and wafer bites, it’s then topped with a pink raspberry sauce.

The pie is a crispy pink pastry filled with a smooth white chocolate ganache and raspberry compote.

That’s not all though because on the same day, Maccies breakfast lovers will be buzzing to know the Breakfast Wrap is also making a comeback.

The fast food giant exclusively revealed to The Sun that the beloved item will once again grace its morning offering.

Foodies have been crying out for the wrap to make a comeback since it was cut from menus.

The wrap will be served all morning until 11am, when it then switches over to lunchtime and dinner food.

If you’re on the fence about giving it a go, we’ve already tried it so have a look at our review video.

If you’re not a fan of change, there will also be a classic KitKat Milk Chocolate McFlurry.

This is a combination of milk chocolate KitKat pieces and wafer bites and chocolate sauce.

You’ll be able to pick up the new McFlurry for £2.19, or £1.59 as a mini – the pie will cost £1.99.

The beloved Big Tasty and the Big Tasty with bacon are both back as well.

Each time the burgers make a comeback, they’re a huge hit, with many calling for them to be made permanent.

They contain a beef patty, melty cheese made with Emmental, tomato, lettuce, onions and iconic Big Tasty sauce.

For those of you looking to upgrade your dinner, you can also bag the burger with bacon too.

They’ll cost £7.69 for the classic and £8.49 with bacon.

Also back again are Mozzarella Dippers, which come in a pack of three or as a sharebox of nine, are each coated in breadcrumbs and served with salsa dip.

They will cost £2.39 for a pack of three and £6.49 for a sharebox.
