It also means that some restaurants will open a little late on Boxing Day too.

Opening and closing times will vary across the country.

McDonald’s is expected to update customers of restaurant opening hours in the next two weeks.

Customers can also check opening times of their local branch via the McDonald’s website.

There are around 1,300 Maccies branches in the UK.

The plans were revealed in an email to customers from McDonald’s CEO Paul Pomroy.

He said: “Given the extraordinary year we’ve all had, we will balance being there for you when you need us with giving our people some additional time off with their loved ones.

“This means that some of our restaurants may close a little earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and open a little later on Boxing Day.”

McDonald’s isn’t the only business on the high street giving staff more time off over the festive period this year.

Wickes is closing its doors on Christmas Eve for the first time in its 48-year history.

Marks and Spencer will close all its shops on Boxing Day to give staff a rest, though it will be open longer in the run up to the big day.

Other retailers will be open longer too as lockdown lifts to give people more of a chance to complete their shopping safely.

Primark is one of the stores which will open some branches for 24 hours a day after the government said they were allowed to in a boost for the struggling retail industry after lockdown.

The email also out outlined rules for McDonald’s in every tier in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to help baffled customers.

McDonald’s has lunched its Christmas menu and includes a jerk chicken burger, Camembert dippers, Celebrations McFlurries and salted caramel lattes.

But it’s the huge Big Mac – double the size of a regular order – that has got customers most excited.
