And when the lottery sent her an email, the mum-of-two thought that was “a scam” as well.

Anne, who did not want to share her surname, said: “I told my daughters and they said don’t click on anything and don’t give any bank details.”

But Anne, a chairperson for her local village hall, got an inkling she may be in luck when she saw her phone number on an email.

When the Postcode Lottery arrived on her street brandishing cheques that Anne peeped around the hedge to see what all the fuss was about.

She recalled: “There was a lovely party atmosphere when they were here in the street.

“I peeped round the hedge and saw the cheques, I was trying to see the amount as they opened them.”

Julie said of her win: “When they emailed us and phoned we thought we may have won about £1,000.

“When we kept seeing all the noughts as the cheque was pulled out of the envelope I kept saying ‘Oh My God, Oh My God.”

Neighbour Tracy Mellor, 54 – a longtime People’s Postcode Lottery player – says her win is thanks to her late dad Peter “shining down” on her.

She burst into tears as she was handed a cheque for £100,000.

Incredibly, she had just cancelled Peter’s own ticket two weeks prior.

She said of her “bittersweet” win: “That’s me dad, that.”
