NEXT has recalled a kids duvet and pillowcase set over fears children could get trapped inside.

The retailer has issued an alert for its “Magical Woodland Duvet Cover & Pillowcase Sets”.

If you’ve bought the affected product, Next is advising customers to return it immediately for a full refund.

Next said the bedding poses an entrapment risk due to a “potential problem with the trim on the bedding becoming detached”.

A Next spokesperson said: “As the Magical Woodland Duvet Cover & Pillowcase Sets don’t meet our strict technical specifications, we’ve taken the precaution of recalling them and request that you return the item to us immediately for a full refund.”

The product recall applies to both the pink and the teal versions of the duvet set.

The bedding was an online exclusive so to return the item, you should either call customer services on 0333 777 8000.

You can also call Selfserve on 0800 587 7758.

Your product recall rights

PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.

The refund can also be claimed by signing into your online Next account and selecting “arrange a return” from the menu.

The retailer asked customers who gave the item as a gift to contact Next as soon as possible.

Next apologised to customers for “any disappointment and inconvenience this may cause”.

It comes as parents were loving the bedding with many posting four and five-star reviews on the Next website to say the items had a “lovely design” and “brilliant quality”.

One parent said: “Beautiful bed set for my toddler girl. Nice cotton fabric.”

But they added: “Will have to see how the trim holds up to washing and her twisting in bed.

“The trim is nicely finished on one side but on the other it’s like they got to an inch or so from the end and had mismeasured so tacked another bit on leaving the overlocking threads hanging off which I’ve had to trim to ensure little fingers don’t get entwined.”

Earlier this month Guinness also recalled cans of its new non-alcoholic drink over fears they are unsafe to consume.

Other product recalls to watch out for include warnings from Lidl, Iceland over various foods which could cause ill health and allergic reactions.

A saftey alert was also raised last month over kids dressing gowns at Asda, which were pulled over fears they could go up in flames.
