Similar to the first lockdown in March, only a limited number of retailers will stay open, such as supermarkets, pharmacies and garden centres.

The lockdown is expected to last from tomorrow, November 5, until December 2, although there is already speculation that the measures will last even longer than planned

If you’re planning to shop at Next during the shutdown, you’ll be pleased to know that the retailer’s warehouse will remain open, meaning you can shop online.

The warehouse closed for a few weeks the last time around while the retailer made the workplace Covid-secure for its staff.

Which businesses must shut during lockdown?

THE government has ordered a wide range of businesses in England to close once again from November 5.

  • Restaurants, pubs and bars, except for takeaway and delivery
  • Non-essential retail shops, including electronics and clothing stores, although they can remain open for delivery and click and collect
  • Market stalls selling non-essential goods
  • Vehicle showrooms
  • Travel agents
  • Betting shops
  • Tobacco and vape shops
  • Auction houses
  • Tailors
  • Car washes
  • Accommodation such as hotels and hostels, although they can remain open for visitors travelling for work purposes
  • Indoor and outdoor leisure facilities such as bowling alleys, leisure centres and gyms
  • Sports facilities including swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres, soft play facilities, climbing walls and climbing centres, archery and shooting ranges
  • Water and theme parks
  • Personal care facilities such as hairdressers, nail salons, spas, tanning salons, massage parlours, tattoo studios and body piercing studios
  • Entertainment venues such as theatres, concert halls, cinemas, museums and galleries
  • Community centres and halls
  • Places of worship, apart from for the purposes of independent prayer, and service broadcasting and funerals

A spokesperson for Next told The Sun up to 300 English stores will also remain open for click and collect, out of a total of 390 shops.

The retailer is yet to confirm the exact numbers and the list of shops, so we’ll update this article once it’s announced.

Staff members will hand out the parcels to click and collect shoppers outside the entrance, so you won’t be able to enter the shop.

Next shoppers can click and collect for free, while home delivery sets you back £3.99.

Just keep in mind that the lockdown rules apply to England only – Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have different coronavirus restrictions.

In Wales, all non-essential stores including Next shops are shut, with no option to click and collect.

Meanwhile, Next stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland are open as usual.

John Lewis, Currys PC World and Ikea are among retailers extending their opening hours this evening ahead of the second lockdown.

The strict new measures in England were announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the weekend.

Pubs and restaurants will also not be allowed to stay open, although takeaway food and delivery is allowed.

We’ve got a list of food places that can carry on offering takeaway and delivery here.
