Martin Gilbert is River and Mercantile’s new  deputy chairman

City grandee Martin Gilbert has joined the board of investment company River and Mercantile as deputy chairman.

The founder of Aberdeen Asset Management is set to help it expand, by snapping up rivals and pulling in more customers, as it tries to move on from a tricky few years.

In 2019, R&M was fined almost £110,000 for breaching competition law, after sharing information about a float with other investment firms.

The father-of-three is on the board of digital bank Revolut, miner Glencore, and investor Toscafund.
