APPLE is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence-powered robot for home use.

On Wednesday, Apple insider Mark Gurman reported that the tech giant is experimenting with personal robots.

Gurman writes that Apple “has teams investigating a push into personal robotics.”

One product that could be in the works includes a robot assistant for home use.

The mobile bot would work by following users around and helping them complete chores.

It would further comprise “an advanced table-top home device that uses robotics to move a display around,” Gurman noted.

John Giannandrea, Apple’s senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy, is reportedly spearheading the development.

Giannandrea previously led machine intelligence, research, and search teams at Google, ZDnet reported.

Apple has not publically discussed such a product, but if it’s indeed working on it, it would likely be in the early stages.

There is also a chance that the tech giant might scrap the project altogether as it has done in the past with many ideas.

THE RISE OF THE HOME ROBOT

Apple is not the only tech giant that’s explored home robots.

In 2021, Amazon introduced its $1,600 Astro smart home robot.

The robot can do things like wheel itself around the house, engage in conversation, and even grab a beverage.

Amazon revealed in 2022 that Astro would work alongside its Ring system to act as a security guard.

This integration between the two products, the company said, could offer users peace of mind in both their homes and businesses.

In November 2023, Amazon unveiled a version of Astro for businesses.

Nearly three years after its debut, the device is still only available in small numbers, per CNBC.

Elon Musk’s Telsa has also developed a humanoid bot called Optimus.

Optimus is being developed to serve as a general-purpose robot that can do everyday tasks, such as going grocery shopping at the supermarket.

Musk has revealed that the Tesla bot is “intended to be friendly”.

It will stand at 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh in at a realistic 125 lbs.

Optimus will come equipped with several cameras, sensors, and self-piloting software.
