PLAYSTATION fans have predicted new stock will land at Curry’s on March 1, as the new month is expected to bring a series of restocks.

The store is one of very few major UK retailers who didn’t restock in February, which has convinced multiple Twitter stock trackers that the next month could bring a Currys console drop.

Playstation CEO Jim Ryan reassured fans that Sony are “working as hard as they possibly can” to get more stock and blamed a global shortage in semiconductors for a slow rollout that has caused prolonged misery around the world.

“I know there were people who wanted a PS5 and couldn’t find one. We’re very sorry about that and obviously grateful that demand has been as strong as it is,” he said.

“Obviously in a pandemic supply chains become a little more complicated than would normally be the case… We had to move to a distribution model that is entirely online and that’s something that we never had to do before.

“And, finally, just the level of demand for PlayStation 5. So, you know, all of those things kind of combined,” he added explaining the shortage.

  • SHORTAGES COULD BE OVER BY SUMMER

Sony has promised more stock in 2021.

And insiders have revealed that some of the delays are linked to shortages of the chips that power the consoles.

It’s expected that these shortages will be over by June or July.

  • HIGH DEMAND

Resellers were peddling the console for thousands of pounds in the days after launch.

And even months later, the PS5 is still in such high demand that people are selling the console for £1,000 on eBay.

  • STOCK LEVELS TO CLIMB MONTH ON MONTH

PlayStation president Jim Ryan has admitted that more PS5 stock is on the way.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Ryan admitted that stock levels would climb steadily month-on-month.

He added that from July onwards, it will be much easier to get a PS5.

“It will get better every month throughout 2021,” Ryan explained.

  • STOCK EXPERT CREATES APP TO NOTIFY OF PS5 DROPS

Stock experts are really going above and beyond to help customers secure a PlayStation 5 console – with one even creating their own app to provide restock alerts.

The PS5 Stock+ Alert‪s‬ app has been produced by Twitter user @stockbacklive, to streamline the supply of information.

It currently operates in 11 countries, hoping to expand to more, and uses a Ai algorithm to scan the market.

It provides custom notifications and prompts to users when retailers restock.

  • PS5 ON THE WAY

Dedicated stock alerters have confirmed stock is being moved and shipments are arriving.

One tweeted: “Argos received Disc shipments and are ready to drop. Curry’s received shipments too and are ready. GAME are preparing bundle boxes for the next shipment already. The rest like Amazon & Very is my own speculation for now.”

  • PLAYSTATION BOSS SAYS COMPANY IS ‘VERY SORRY’ ABOUT LACK OF NEW STOCK

Jim Ryan, CEO at playstation, recently addressed the lack of stock available for their new console – and apologise to disappointed gamers around the world.

He told GQ: “All I can say is we’re working as hard as we possibly can.

“You may have read that we sold 4.5 million PS5s at the end of December – that’s more than we did PS4s in 2013 and that was the high watermark for the PlayStation generation.

“So, with everything in the world throughout last year, we feel like that was fairly decent.

“I know there were people who wanted a PS5 and couldn’t find one. We’re very sorry about that and obviously grateful that demand has been as strong as it is.”

  • MARCH IS TIPPED TO BE BIGGEST MONTH YET FOR PS5 RESTOCKS

According to another tipster on Twitter Curry’s drop is imminent, most likely weekday mornings between 6-9am.

Meanwhile Argos are building up stock for another drop in 1-2 weeks.

Next month is expected to be the biggest yet for restocks.

The retailer was the only one in February to not restock, convincing gamers that they will have the consoles in next month.

In a tweet, Argos said: “We are working hard to replenish stock of the PS5 at the moment.

“Please keep an eye on our website, where you will find the most up to date information on current stock availability.

“Our contact centre staff are unable to provide any additional information on stock levels.”

  • CONSIDERABLE’ AMOUNT OF PS5S IN THE UK MARKET

PlayStation’s boss has said that there is considerable stock going into the UK market – meaning that gamers could snap up a console very soon.

Mr Ryan told GQ: “We’re doing our best.

“I was just looking at the supply figures for the UK – we put a considerable amount of product into the UK market last week.

“And that will continue over weeks and months to come.”

  • SONY SUED OVER ‘DEFECTIVE’ DUALSENSE JOYPADS

Gamers are suing Sony over an alleged issue with PlayStation 5 controllers that causes them to “drift” during gameplay.

In a class action suit recently filed in the US, a law firm claims that faulty controller joysticks are registering movement even when a player doesn’t touch them.

They claimed that the next-gen console’s DualSense joypad – which costs just shy of £60 – is “defective”, Eurogamer reports.

The bug “results in characters or gameplay moving on the screen without user command or manual operation of the joystick,” the filing reads.

“This defect significantly interferes with gameplay and thus compromises the DualSense controller’s core functionality.”

  • SONY BOSS CONFIRMS THAT MORE STOCK IN ON THE WAY

  • IMMERSED IN THE GAME

The wearable gear, which also plugs into the PS5, lets players immerse themselves in virtual reality games processed through their console.

Starting at £260, players can bolster their set-up by paying for extra gear in the form of special VR controllers, which ship for £70 for a pair.

In Monday’s blog post, Nishino revealed that Sony is developing a new version of the PlayStation Move controller for the PSVR 2.

The joypad will incorporate “some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller” packaged with the PS5, he said.

Sony has confirmed that it is working on a new version of its PlayStation VR headset designed for the PlayStation 5.

The Japanese tech titan said Tuesday that the new gear, out as early as next year, promises “dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity”.

“Our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience,” Sony’s Hideaki Nishino wrote in a blog post.

“Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”

  • PRODUCTION ISSUES

The global pandemic has caused a lot of production issues in many industries and that includes those developing video games.

Sony told GQ: “GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022.

“With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months.

“We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

  • GRAN TURISMO 7 DELAYED BY A YEAR

Car racing video game Gran Turismo 7 will now be delayed until 2022.

  • MEMORY BOOST

A memory boost will prove vital to gamers as major titles eat through more drive space than ever before.

The latest Call of Duty game needs 133GB of installation space, while most marquee titles take up at least 40GB each.

Sony showed gamers how to add an additional drive to the PS5 in a console teardown video released last October.

Once the console is opened up, the drive can be plugged in to the spare NVMe slot on the console.

  • LEVEL UP

Sony is reportedly plotting to hand a lifeline to gamers who’ve already maxed out the storage on their PlayStation 5s.

According to Bloomberg, the Japanese tech titan will open up its new console to internal memory upgrades in the coming months.

The site reported on Friday that a firmware update released by Sony this summer will add support for additional internal drives.
