Royal Mint releases new Mr Men and Little Miss coins

THE Royal Mint has launched a new collection of Mr Men and Little Miss coins – with one coin being flogged for £2,370. 

Six types of coins are up for grabs in three designs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular childrens’ book series.

The three designs feature characters including Mr Happy, Little Miss Sunshine, Little Miss Giggles and Mr Strong.

Some coins will have a coloured design, and all of them won’t be going into general circulation – so you won’t end up with one in your spare change. 

The cheapest coin is a £5 coin which will set you back £13.

The most expensive coin on the list is the £100 coin made out of gold, which you’ll have to stump up £2,370 for.

The Royal Mint will also be hiding “golden Mr Tickle tickets” in 50 coin sets, and customers can receive a prize bundle if they find one.

It is not clear what exactly is in the prize bundle, but The Sun has asked for more details and we will update you when we have more information.

Adam Hargreaves, who is the son of the original creator and illustrator of the Mr. Men Little Miss books, Roger Hargreaves, has designed the coins.

The Royal Mint divisional director of commemorative coin Clare Maclennan said: “With this year marking the 50th anniversary since the Mr. Men Little Miss characters were introduced to the world, it felt right to celebrate the loveable characters on their own commemorative coins.”

It’s not the only coin that the Royal Mint has launched this year.

It has launched a new set of commemorative coins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Decimal Day.

The range of coins start at £10 for an uncirculated version, but the most expensive option is £2,175 for a Gold Proof Piedfort Coin.
