But there’s a major drawback to this position – the food you’re required to taste isn’t for humans – it’s for dogs.
Working as a dog food taster is a unique career, which can be very rewarding, according to Philip Wells, chief taster for Lily’s Kitchen pet food.
He told The Guardian: “Although dogs’ palates are different to ours, taste is an important quality check to ensure each different ingredient is perfectly balanced in just the right way.”
The positions often pay an entry-level salary of around £20,000, but if you have a taste for what dogs enjoy, you could earn up to £50,000.
Some dog food tasters even assist in developing new recipes for companies.
CareerMatch said: “Once you’ve popped a small bite in your mouth, you check for flavour (if you’re saying, “Yuck!” then pets probably are, too), texture, and consistency. Then you spit it out and move on to the next flavour.
